joanieS, you can get down from that archway by
putting vine arrows into the tree beside it. You'll need more than one and then you can jump from rope to rope to get low enough to get to the ground without hurting yourself. The other way to get down is to "use" one of the Trickster's Gems that you found. They teleport you to 3 different locations in the mission. It can take a bit of walking to get back to where you were, but it allows you to retrieve all your vine arrows as you climb up so you always have plenty.
If you want screenshots of how to place the arrows to get up to the medallion, just send me an email.
Darn, I didn't think of the trickster gem. Used the only slow fall potion I had to get down. Not sure I want to go back to that point again and even try messing with the vine arrows anymore. Have only been able to use two arrows for climbing once. Have unsuccessfully retried that so times I gave up on the sapphire gem. I put an arrow way up and then put a second one at the base of that one so it can be reached. Tried putting the lower arrowhead above the bottom of the top vine, at the bottom of the top vine and below the bottom of the top vine. Manage to get the arrows exactly in line so I don't know what is wrong. Just can't hop from the bottom vine onto the top vine. Have had lots of problems in this game with getting "stuck" to walls and in areas where I have to use the crouch key. Maybe there is just something wrong with my keyboard or something. :(

You don't want the vine arrows lined up from top to bottom. You want them staggered sideways a bit, but not enough to take them around the curve of the tree, because then you can't jump onto the next one without bouncing off. It's a bit tricky but once you figure it out, not all that hard. The sapphire isn't up in a high tree though. None of the gems are very hard to find. It's
in a gap under the walkway. Walk from the end of the tree village where you came up the spiral stairs towards the other end with the ramp. Part way through, you'll have to go through an arch shaped opening. The sapphire is under the walkway right there. Just rope arrow down from the walkway and snag it.
Thank you, Nightwalker. Getting them TOO close must be my problem. Unfortunately, this has become a moot point. Something happened with my game this morning where I cannot bring my weapons up. Just get a water colored look on the screen. I have been using that same save name to finish all of the compound area and I'm not sure I want to go back to a "safe" save and start all of that over again since I have accomplished all of the objectives. At least I can try to SEE where that darn sapphire is. Have read all the posts about where it is and was still not having good luck in finding that area. Thanks again for your help:)

O.K., I'm back in business. Have gotten the medallion though I still don't know how people retrieve all their vine arrows.
Question: In the hermit's cave, when one first enters there is a stone "table" with the hermit standing on the other side. There is a scroll on that table that I cannot highlight to pick up. Have even gotten on the table trying to read this thing. Are you supposed to have access to that scroll? If so, why can't I pick it up?
Nightwalker on 19/6/2003 at 13:18
Forget about that. You can't pick it up. :)

Thanks, Nightwalker. And, forgot to thank you for the sapphire info. Finally found it in a totally different area than I was looking. I thought "gap" meant a hole in the walkway to look for as you walked along. Anyway, I have all the secrets and am missing like almost $1,000 in loot. Cannot get the first objective out of the way even after reading something in the library that said Thomas had poisened Garrett and had the pagan bury him. What more info do I need to find than that for the first objective for Pete's sake!? Also, in reading the posts people are mentioning the gold hammer, the doll, and the hairbrush all of which I have found. I get the impression that these are more objectives that I have missed reading about. Am I missing one whole big area somewhere? No, don't want a loot list. I WILL replay this mission someday and want to still have those $$$'s to find.

If I recall correctly, there are two different things you can read to get that objective to tick off.
There's a book sitting on a table in one of the rooms in the compound. Sort of a small dining area, I think. There's also something tucked down behind one of the beds in a room upstairs, where you'll also find a switch. I think that ticks it off as well.
I haven't played the final version yet (I'm bad for that, when I've betatested a mission, so I hope this didn't get changed, but I doubt that it did.
The gold hammer
is an objective on Expert, I think. I can't remember if you trigger it on other difficulty levels or not. As for the doll and the hairbrush, those are bonus objectives, if you can figure out what to do with them and where to do it. :)
I am playing expert but have not triggered an objective for the gold hammer. Is the switch by the bed you mentioned the one that opens the trapdoor to the stairs down to Thomas's area? Also, speaking of Thomas's area, there is a gem in the water next to the waterfall on the left side of the walkway just before his front door. I cannot get this highlighted to pick up. Is this indeed loot?
Nightwalker on 19/6/2003 at 18:49
That's the switch I was referring to. As for that "nugget", I don't recall any loot there.
