None of you played the ORIGINAL "Beyond Castle Wolfenstein"? It had random generated room layouts, monochrome graphics, very fun to play really. You know, the one for Apple II, Commodore 64, and old IBM PC.

Didn't it have fairly complicated (or at least, more than the remake) gameplay too?

Beyond Castle Wolfenstein becomes very easy if you have a knife. Try a pass, if it works it will work on everybody, otherwise bribe, kill, get your money back.

Wolfenstein was pretty good. Sounds like another Xbox2 exclusive, though.
I'm waiting for a remake of (
http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/c64/data/574183.html) Infiltrator, even though the 'tards at AOL listed it in the "simulation" section.

Yes. One could reasonably argue that it was one of the first stealth games. Guards tracked you by line of sight, there was lockpicking of chests and doors (or you could just blast either open), pickpocketing (granted, at gunpoint), you could steal enemy uniforms and walk around unnoticed, guards would become alerted by bodies, you could move bodies, etc. It was an incredible game, undermined somewhat by terrible graphics and controls.
As for this new game, it just sounds like a remake of (
http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/return-to-castle-wolfenstein) Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

Wolfenstein was the first FPS I ever saw. My friend played it alot at his house, and I'd watch. We figured out the game together.
Quick note: He did not know how to open doors at first, and thought that you had to shoot all your guns at doors for them to open. Did you know that a guard comes eventually to check on you in the starting cell? That is how we would escape. I suggested we try to find an "Open door" key on the keyboard, and behold! We now knew how to actually proceed through the game.

I think there is a small file (with pictures) on the re-release of Wolf3D CD that talks about the original game and I believe it is mentioned somewhere in the RTCW manuel. Looks like pac-man, except with nazis.

It does frelling not look like Pac-Man. Sheesh.
It looks like Berzerk.

You sound like John Romero.

I was wondering how long it would take for people to mention castle wolfenstein and its sequel beyond castle wolfenstein. Tried to run them once on my PII 233mhz a few years ago but it was too fast. I wonder if dosbox can clock down my current crappy computer (950mhz) to a playable level. Now I just wonder how long it will be until people start making fun of BJ's name.
I was also annoyed after reading in the return to castle wolfenstein manual that one of the original builds of wolf3d had the option of stealing uniform and such. Even without it it's still fun anyway (hitler mech suit:D ). Also tried to play through spear of destiny and wolf3d two years ago and ended up with motion sickness (almost never happens to me) because of the way the camera/player turns

Funny about that 'cause I consider return to castle wolfenstein to be a remake of wolf 3d.
