Reminiscing of the days gaming under DOS, Win9x and long dead genres... - by EvaUnit02

Back in the day I played on the Commodore 64.
But on my friends' PC I remember spending a lot on Space Quest, Police Quest, Quest for Glory, Beneath a Steel Sky, a curious game called Dragon Lord ... hmm, some others I'm sure, but those are the ones I recall.
Of course I've played more classic PC games these days on dosbox than I ever did when they were contemporary.

Yeah Star Trek 25th was good fun except that last mission where you can't beat it unless you beat all the other missions with the highest rating. That was pretty lame.
I remember the game had a "green" and a "red" setting for firing the hand phasers. I used red almost exclusively.
Starfleet Command and I never quite saw eye to eye for some reason.

I did that too, and also used the flippant dialog when I could for laughs. That is when I wasn't beating my head against the keyboard because they expected me to know the molecular structure of ammonia or some obscure number puzzle.

My personal candidate for best adventure game ever made. It had a lot of emotional resonance for me due to the fact that I was just about 17 at the time I played it.
One of my friends happened to have the CD long before I found the game on my own. I found this out one day after mentioning how much I'd liked 'this little game called Loom'. His face went funny then, and he told me he'd had it, once upon a time.
Turned out, after he'd gotten the game, he discovered that he hated it with a passion; so he took the CD out, broke it in two, and chucked it into the bin.
I was quite depressed for a while after hearing that. Not because he'd broken the CD or anything, but because I'd really respected his opinions on games before hearing that story. Guess you can't really predict how some people's views can skew away from your own sometimes.
Also: I'm lol'ing at that tag down there. Monkey Island much, people? :D

Sorry, but I have to vote 'Blade Runner' for My Favorite Adv. Game.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one too. The detail and atmosphere that went into the game was very rewarding.

I'd agree about the atmosphere, but I always thought that the game was pretty light on actual game. Except for 2-3 times, it always seemed clear where you had to go and what you had to do. In that respect, it felt like one of those interactive movies to me. However, based on the love the game gets, I seem to be pretty alone in this opinion.
