Reminiscing of the days gaming under DOS, Win9x and long dead genres... - by EvaUnit02

I just played that one recently too (The Last Express). Damn but if that isn't a hidden jewel of a game. It could have used a bit more interactivity, but the game design and story, the way all the bits and pieces were put together, were excellent.
The whole concept of a real-time adventure game was a real breakthrough idea that makes it stand apart as a special game. There's so much potential there, and yet TLE has been so under the radar that it doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

Oh man, that game frustrated me to no end. I'm going to give it another go when I have time, though. I just rescued it from my closet in my parent's house.

Speaking of The Incredible Machine, though, that's another one of the great games that I was fortunate enough to experience, though I was introduced to the series by The Return of the Incredible Machine: Contraptions, which had improved the controls and the interface (and possibly the physics) just enough so that the originals felt a little clunky. But they're still insanely fun and mind blowing.
Hells yeah! I played the shit out of that game back when I was younger. Never played the sequel though; I should probably check it out.

Whilst there is certainly a few puzzles in it that are very hard to do without a walkthrough (damn Bishop puzzle), the majority are do-able given enough effort. If all else fails you can bypass a puzzle by checking the hint book in the libray which will knock the puzzle off if you select it a few times.
Certainly a game worth your time.

Speaking of 7th Guest type games, did anyone else think Myst sucked? The setting was bland, the puzzles were too complicated or obscure. I never could understand why it was so highly acclaimed.

I couldn't get into Myst. I wanted to like Riven, but it was so damn hard.
RavynousHunter on 26/6/2009 at 20:15
Yeah, Myst was interesting for the first 15 minutes or so. Then the retardedly difficult puzzles and shit just killed it for me. I give it 3-and-a-half Meh's.

'retardedly difficult'?
