Is there a way to remove or preferably minimize the view bobbing when moving in Thief Gold and Thief 2?
LarryG on 3/10/2012 at 01:17
cam_ext.cfg
Code:
; head bob scale factor (a value between 0 and 1), useful if the head bobbing is causing motion sickness
;bob_factor 0.3

Thanks. I guess this stuff is now possible with the 1.19 patch, but was not possible before?
While at that. I never liked the fact that if you move, holding both, the forward and side step keys increases the speed from a walk to a run (or from creep to walk). I often move diagonally (by holding both keys) and the increased speed is contra productive. Any way to remove this?

Hah! I knew you could not answer that one.

Who are you talking to?

Why LarryG, of course...Psycho arbitrarily determined a presupposed response and time, for a verification and conclusion of LarryG's personal knowledge.

The answer is no, I don't think you can counter the strafe-run increase in speed, although it might be possible in 1.19 given all the changes we haven't even discovered yet. I personally love it and use it all the time to traverse areas I know are free of AI in less time (like retracing my steps back through an area).

Guess it's a bit of poor coding/implementation on LGS' side, where holding two movement keys is like 1+1=2, while in case of movement in games it always should remain 1. I had the same problem in the first Splinter Cell by the way, which is funny given the fact that it is also a stealth game (some would call it like that). Maybe it's by design, like to give you a chance to accelerate a bit without to toggle to another speed, but for me it felt rather contraproductive, because in Thief it also increases the sound you make on tile and metal.
I really hope someone finds a solution for this, but it wouldn't surprize me if I was the only one pointing at that and thus nobody will look at it.
Also I hope T2X gets a patch incorporating the 1.19 fixes. The menus are so slow in T2X and resolution low.

T2X can be loaded via the new FM selector just like any other FM, if memory serves (the topics are starting to be too big to search and link, but I think someone has already mentioned it).

Actually, I would suggest first off, DON'T DO THAT! You know it doesn't move you the way you want to move, so pick up your finger from off of the sidestep key and reserve that FEATURE for when you really want to run quickly, like jumping into the Lost City tower from across the way, near the white spiders.
If you really insist on doing it your way I suggest a) crouching and b) pressing up against a wall, angled into the wall. The more you angle into the wall, the slower you will go. Both of these will slow you down.
