Yeah, since Looking Glass didn't know what would work or not with their Dark Project, they threw in a lot of everything. TMA answered the complaints of TDP while also building too much as though on grid paper.

That Game Informer replay was just infuriating to try to watch. I call BS on them having played TDP for more than 30 minutes prior to writing the cover story.

That Joe Martin article seems pretty flawed. Thief isn't 'broken' at all and I think 15 years and 1000 or so fan missions attest to that ;) The original game has some clunky bits and is a bit uneven I'll grant you, but that's not the same thing as being broken at all.

Lots of games over the last decade seem to have built around "universal engines". LGS was not one of those companies. They made their own tech to fit their games, like all of the old classic game companies did, and they were also the foremost pioneer of the 1st person 3d movement itself! By the time you get to Thief, the game was as much about the technology they created as it was about the story/environments, that they so masterfully presented to show off their new tech.

I have a theory that if VR gaming takes off (Oculus Rift, for example), the first person perspective and the idea of actually listening to a game while you're playing it will both get more respect from "modern gamers." Maybe that will bring the immersive sim back to the forefront.

The Thief technology was developed with an eye toward reuse, and I will refer to it in this article as an "engine."

:cheeky:
I guess what I was (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141117&p=2173767&viewfull=1#post2173767) trying to say was that the Thief engine was not "broken". LGS built their own game engines since their first game in 92'. They pushed the envelope more vigorously, and earlier, than anyone else in the realm of the new 3d technology. When you get to Thief: The Dark project, yes, the story/environment is what most people continue to froth about, but it is only truly half the story. As you so eloquently pointed out, Thief was just as much about the technology it created as it was about the exultant world and story it revealed. Thanks for the link, btw. Dont forget to tip your waiter. :p

LOL these guys need to be slapped :)
I will admit I like seeing things like this more than I like all the typical speedthrus as the speedthrus are pretty pointless.
It's hilarious when they are surprised by things but what is annoying is their constant whining about the game. They could have spent a little more time actually learning the controls and objects. Then they wouldn't have to whine so much.

Agreed. They didn't even know how to use the inventory properly.
They didn't know how to open a door because the key was in the (hidden) inventory.
They forgot they picked up a vase and threw it into a door.
They clubbed that same door.
They bumped into that drunk guard in Bafford's Manor. How clumsy can one be?
They didn't lean around corners.
They thought the 3 maps of Clagscleft Prison were too intimidating. Brainless idiots.
They think moss arrows are Stupid. "boy that's confusing. har har har har."
The Health-bar is "rough". Why? WHY?
They shot plain water arrows at a zombie.
And then they call the game too hard and not for today's market....because they can't play it. RTFM!!!!!
