They're for an optional thing which you can find in one of the crypts. There's no objective attached to it, but you get a decent amount of equipment. You'll know the place when/if you find it, as it has some scroll or something explaining about the bones.

I thought you were supposed to put them in the open casket in the room with the holy water in it, the one under the hammarite tempal. I don't think I tried but I doubt it would have worked.

Actually that's exactly what you're meant to do.

Hmm, well was there a golden ribcage too? I didn't find it all I found (that I can remember) was two arms, legs, and the skull. I was thinking of looking for the golden ribcage but I lost my nerve seeing all those hungry zombies.

Was the currency they use ever discussed in the game, or is it simply gold?

Considering that gold and silver coins are the only form of currency you ever find, I think that question pretty much answers itself.

Yep. Galleons and Sickles all the way.

I'm pretty sure he meant "does the currency have any
names apart from 'gold'".
To the best of my knowledge it doesn't, though I like it when FMs play a bit fast and loose with this and inject other currency names. After all, throughout medieval europe a great variety of currencies were used and exchanged - it adds a nice flavour to an FM to mention currency that could have come from other realms outside the City.

That was something odd in the third game that I could never get over. You had to fence pretty much everything you steal in Thief: Deadly Shadows. One of the things you could fence was a bag of coins. That made no sense to me at all, what were they supposed to be? Foreign currency?
