I saw a few of my friends playing it on Friday night and they were at it for around three hours. Apart from a few of the interactive cutscenes, it didn't look as exciting as that Gametrailers review.
The attention to detail was brilliant but the level design repetitive. It looked particularly clunky to move and aim, but the zombies seem to kindly wait for a while until you're ready to take a shot, especially if they're in your peripheral view or if you're fiddling with your inventory.
Anyway, I can't properly judge. I didn't have a go, and I haven't played a Resident Evil game since number two. My friends enjoyed it though.

Yeah, it is a bit clunky, but then so was RE4. I don't mind that much.
The enemies really are a danger though. They run in short bursts, but stand still in between, usually when they're close to you, so you can get a shot off and punch them. Fail to do so, and they will attack, even when your back is turned or you're in inventory mode. Later on, they also get a lot more dangerous.
The only thing I really miss from RE4 was the amount of room in the inventory. I felt limited here by my inventory size, not by the supplies I could pick up.
I loved pretty much everything else about it.

Did they eliminate economics of RE4 entirely, I mean buy/sell/upgrade system? It was big chunk of fun. Also, are there any mini-games (like shooting range or "collect 15 medallions" in RE4) ?

It's all there. But the "Got a lot of good things for you, stranger" Merchant is gone, replaced with a dull screen in-between chapters.

So I've been playing this with my brother and I'm absolutely loving it. We're nearing the end.
My only real complaint so far is that you can't trade guns. It's rather moot since you can buy them cheaply, but I still would have enjoyed some on-the-fly swapping. Especially because of some situations like only the girl can do the high jumps (which I do like). Oh, and the menu is kind of vague when you go to start a new game. I was concerned the first few times that it wasn't actually going to load me properly (as the second player). Also wtf the stunstick takes up a weapon slot instead of just overriding the knife.
Oh, and there's a thing that's a bit annoying where, a lot of creatures can kill you in one shot, which is fun in a lot of sections for bosses and having to run and so on, you know? Like even if you're good and loaded, it kind of keeps you from being an unstoppable force. But there was this particular creature that could pin you and then rape your chest. And it's the kind of situation where the second player could save you, but in this particular scene you're forced to separate, and it made for a couple of very annoying and unavoidable deaths.
Other than that, it's linear as hell, but it's challenging and has room for exploring and hasn't gotten stale at any point. The writing and dialogue is, well, what you'd expect from a Resident Evil game. (take a shot every time someone says "partner")
It's felt kind of short so far so I'm not sure it's worth the full $60, but it's definitely a lot of fun. Totally a good cooperative experience. But I'm not sure how well it would translate in the online play. I hate playing most games online anyway. Even with L4D I prefer to get 4-8 people in a room.

Really? You can't do ingame swapping in coop? In single player I found any gun in the inventory had a "give" option associated with it, and every one of Sheva's guns had a "request" option. At least, when she's close.
Also, what one-hit-kill enemy are you talking about? The insect-like things? The dogs?
The only really annoying one-hit kill enemy to me was the giant flesh-sphere that replace a majini's chest. It's armored to hell and back, and its attacks have pretty good reach. Is there any trick I've just not found for those?

Yeah, I've had it work fine in single player but it's always greyed out in coop. It's kind of annoying.

I was referring to the insects, but you can pretty much be one hit by the spears, crab-guys like you mentioned, turrets, and rpg guys.

Okay, that episode of ZP was spot on. It had some of the most brilliantly funny lines I've heard in a good long while from Yahtzee.
And it looks like he confirms what I'd feared about RE5: it's essentially an action-y next-gen retread of RE4, minus the atmosphere. Oh well, I'll probably get it at some point anyway.
