It may be a side-campaign for Jill, like Separate Ways in RE4.

new content as in.......????
I suspect a DLC sized map / little level "what Jill did after.....spoil/spoil", the thing other devs give away with the multiplayer patch......but yeah, what was I thinking........after-sales support and goodies for free........outrageous,
see latest culmination in platform exclusive fuckery: Batman AA DLCs and most of all other upcoming games like DragonAge (special memory band with preorder, please don't pirate)
(
http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95590) Get your facts straight. The Batman:AA DLC is available on all platforms and for free. Aside from the play as the Joker bits in the non-campaign Challenge rooms.
FFS, cut them some slack. It's no longer economical for 3rd party developers to make multi-million budgeted blockbuster titles for single platforms any more. Games development has gotten more and more expensive as time as past. The hardware manufacturers have to stay competitive and platform exclusive DLC and timed exclusivity deals is one way they're doing it.
Competition is good, without it things would be more expensive and there'd be less innovation. The consumer wins in the end. Without it we likely wouldn't have gotten the two fully blown expansions for GTA4, mostly funded by Microsoft who paid $50 million.
As for pre-order incentives of exclusive in-game content, they're combating the 2nd hand market. Limited collector editions serve the same purpose. The likes of Gamestop/EB make the bulk of business this way, publishers/developers/distributors/etc see none of this revenue. Insidious DRM doesn't work with the console market so they have be more creative. Eg Brand new copies of Gears of War 2 come with a download to get a free map pack, you'd have to purchase it if you had bought the game second hand.

I have no problems buying single player content that's well made. Like the Fallout 3 DLCs, those were high quality, polished products that I consider money well spent. In the case of these, the non-existent right that long-time PC gamers imagine that they have to free extra stuff is utterly stupid.
Non-MMO multiplayer content is an entirely different kettle of fish though. Charging for map packs is wrong on principle, it does nothing but divide communities, limiting the number of people that you can play with.
Also charging for stuff that ships with the game (eg Street Fighter 4 alternative costumes, the Resident Evil 4 Vs. Multiplayer modes) and the equivalent of cheat codes (eg the DLC for the console versions of Dead Space, Godfather 1 & 2) is wrong as well.

More news on the topic.

Fallout DLC is like an expansion, nobody would argue that it's too high priced. but paying for 3 maps or additional costumes is just retarded and ruins business imo. I can't see any customer winning if games get bastardized into different version with different content for different platforms.
also, lol for replying 2 times to your own posts....
PS: there is 1(!) batman DLC that is free for all platforms. additional to that you have platform/retailer specific differences which makes it a 2-digit number for different Batman versions, somebody on the eidos forum collected all the different offers/bundles....whatever. I think that's ridiculous. the same as with publishing the game 1 year later as GOTY and including all maps you previously SOLD to the customers that actually supported the game and preordered or payed on release day. that's how you loose customers. Valve's approach of creating value and binding their customers "to them" is much better.
Well, Capcom just lost a LOT of RE5 customers I think that will now gladly wait for next year to NOT have to pay twice for the game. Directors Cut stinks of money-grab instead of just releasing a patch and/or DLC.

About this PS3 Director's Cut, calm the fuck down with the reactionary rants and wait 'til we have all of the facts. How do you know that it won't be ported to other platforms as DLC later on? Wait and see.
Also how the fuck do you know that the new content is just "three maps and a few new costumes"? If you have EXCLUSIVE DETAILS then please give us some links to back up your claims.

I made the decision that it was more sensible to create an entirely new post than to edit the last one and add several new meaty paragraphs. It was not just a few short sentences.

You're right, it seems that the new "Prey in the Darkness" DLC pack has yet to be confirmed for PC, exclusive to PS3 in North America, but on both consoles everywhere else. I agree, it seems stupid to not release at least release this DLC pack for the PC version for the territories outside of North America, especially when it's free for the other platforms anyway. They've already given us a fantastic PC port, it doesn't make any sense to stop the support now.

This argument is a stupid though. This has been happening in the PC market for YEARS. "Gold/GotY/Platinum Edition/Collection/whatever" compilations that bundle the original full game and any existing expansion packs at a lower price is staple of the marketplace. Now that traditional expansion pack content is released sooner and in smaller chunks via digital distribution it's all of a sudden a different kettle of fish? I'm sorry but the concept of game compilations is exactly as it's always been, to be angry about it now is incredibly silly.

i was reffering to the add. costumes you brought up in regards to SF4, this was not related to RE5 Alternate Edition (funny title)

Yep, that's
RE5: Alternative Edition revealed at TGS the other day with a (
http://biohaze.com/tgs09.html) trailer of Chris & Jill on that
fateful mission to take Spencer into custody but end up bumping into Wesker as shown in RE5. It's going to make use of the new PS3 motion controller with the regular controller in one hand for movement and the motion "wand" in the other to aim and fire with (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgDV48JbYXw#t=2m51s) as demonstrated at TGS, a bit like
Dark Side Chronicles controls for Wii.
Other platforms TBA.
*Yawn* Motion control, meh. *Yawn* Motion control, meh. Of course it will highly likely be optional.
As it's been already said, hopefully they'll release it as DLC for the other platforms.

I'd be slathering cynicism all over that one too if RE4 Wii wasn't the best playing port of the bunch. Shooting at dead pukey crap with the Wiimote>KB/M>analog sticks any day of the week.
Anyone who disagrees with me should be drug out into the streets and given step-by-step lessons on how to set the goddamn sensor bar up right.
