Bleh, it's still $40...I'll wait till it drops lower (I'm a cheapskate since I already have games I need to finish). Sounds good though...I should try a classic survival horror title sometime (like the RE remake for gamecube or Silent Hill or something) but yeah it sounds like a lot of em had major control/camera issues.
it wasnt really that the controls/camera was bad, it was just a different kind of control and gameplay scheme than most other game genres. The fixed camera positions made certain scenes scarier. i can see why many people would not like the controls of classic survival horror capcom games, but if you get into it enough, you really dont mind anymore. some recommendation for classic survival horror games worth a play-through are my two favorites, res evil 2 and dino crisis, both for psx

Eh. RE4 is different then the old ones, and it is a good game. Control scheme still sucks though. The camerawork is pretty much borrowed from silent hill, you still control like a tank, and the aiming view was inspired from Dynamite Duke. The old REs had a control scheme scientifically designed to be as much a threat to you as the enemies, and RE4s is also designed for inconvience. You still can move and shoot, you can only turn so far when aiming, and there is still no strafing.
That said, it's still a great game.

Aerothorn,
Start with Resident Evil 1 (remake), then Resident Evil 0 (prequel). Resident Evil 0 shows what happened before Resident Evil 1. Or go vice versa.
I saw them both being sold together at Fry's as the Evil Pack for $29 bucks.
Resident Evil 1 (remake) is a keeper. You can play that one over and over again and unlock new things or find something new. Resident Evil 2 is good but needs a major graphic update. Not sure how it looks graphically (as compared to the old PS1 version) on the Gamecube as it's just a simple port. Resident Evil 3 Nemisis I am currently playing right now. Excellent game so far and has better graphics then part 2.
After you finish those, then get Resident Evil 4. That way you have an idea who Leon and Ada Wong are.
Oh, and don't forget about Resident Evil Codename Veronica. It takes place somewhere between parts 1 and 3. One of the most long and difficult of the series. You can get it on PS2 and Gamecube.

I always got the impression that story wasn't that important in RE games...is it? Do you really have to play em in order?
TheGreatGodPan on 28/7/2005 at 23:38
There is a lot of story. It just isn't all that good (by which I mean worse than other survival horror, adventure, rpg or games that put an emphasis on story). If you don't feel like playing them all, try (

Pretty much what I did, and for the same reason: Wanted to know who this Leon character was before playing 4... Saw that Zero was fairly cheap (Player's Choice or something; can't remember), and got 1 soon after. Played them at the same time, so the plots got mixed up.
After a long time, I got 2, but I've only beaten Claire's Side, Version A (And, in a stunning twist, they actually let you run out of ammo. I had to restart the last area and conserve everything just to win -- of course, I managed to miss her special weapon...) Haven't beaten Leon's, if only because of WoW, and it seems harder for some reason.
3 I'm less interested in, as I read that it's closer to a side-story, with Veronica being the continuation story. (I have no idea if this is true. We need a Snopes devoted to gaming rumors/legends.)
As for the story ... It's fairly simplistic, but I like that the presentation is identical to the System Shocks.

RE 3 (Nemesis / Last Escape) takes place at the same time as RE 2. Both are set in Racoon city and you visit some of the same locations but at different times so you don't cross paths with Leon or Claire. Veronica continues on from Claire's story in RE 2 where she's trying to track down her brother Chris.

RE 2 takes place in between the beginning and end of RE 3. Jill is unconcscious for a fairly long time. What doesn't make sense is how Leon and Claire got past the blockade (they didn't even know there was one). Of course that's not the biggest "Huhhhhhh?". That would be why Wesker keeps trying to obtain samples of Umbrella viruses when he's already got the "Plot Hole Virus".

Wow man!
I honestly believed that it was impossible to run out of ammo, in resi 2, you've proved me wrong.
And yeah your right about Leons game being slightly harder than clare's, the female characters game being slightly harder than the males is a carry over from the first game.
