Hehe anyone tried getting the Minigun in Resi 2? Iirc ya gotta play it thru below 2 hours without saving or something equally nuts (which scenario i cant remember, has been years since i touched it ^^). Actually managed that but near the end the game had a loading error in the labs while opening a door. Luckily taking the disk out and back in again brought it back on track, but boy, not even that Lurker jumping thru the window in the interrogation room scared me THAT bad :cheeky:
Erm to get on topic, Resi 4 was ok. Altho i kinda missed the pre-rendered stuff with fixed camera, changing to a full 3D environment (*geekgeek*) is probably the way to go. What i really didnt like was the randomizing of ammo and items, if ya get real unlucky you'd get real shitty drops or on the other hand real absurd ones like every villager dropping magnum ammo if you'd just carry the big magnum-thingie-gun (did that once and actually had to just throw away some because i didnt know where to stuff all the magnum bullets and healthsprays). That merchant was stupid too....or at least the way he was done - trading with excess items for example which would be atleast somewhat useful to someone running around on Zombo...errr Mad Spain Villagers island would have been more believable than trading gems ya got from shooting birds, but meh i dunno :p. Changing the general feeling from something Night-of-the-living-deadish with few zombies lurching after ya to something like "Assault on Precinct 13" with hoards of geezers almost overrunning ya all the time was a nice change too, tho i'd prefer the first in future games.
Mixed bag for me, cant decide between the old, beloved but dangerously near becoming boring gameplay and the new one. Id say keep the focus on the Adventurish stuff with lesser (but sweeter) action, fewer not randomized ammo and items (ah, every bullet fired was like a beloved leaving you :joke: ), bring back the magical chests and the old cast of enemies (Zombies, Hunters etc), but pack it in this new fancy engine with the free-aiming. Oh yeah and places you could get lost in again plz, all Resi 4 Levels where practically one-way tubes with few exceptions, thats my perception, erm.

So if I play Res Evil 1/0, I'll get Res Evil 4- no need to play 2/3/Veronica?

RE3 and Veronica are skippable, in my opinion, though RE2 is definitely a highpoint in the series. There's decent incentive to run through the game at least four times (both character have two campaigns), so you're getting your money's worth if you do buy it. It also felt the most like a digitized Romero movie to me, so I say you can't go wrong by checking that one out, especially if you find yourself enjoying the original.
I can't remember much about RE3, and I've not played "0," though that's only because I've heard negative things about it, but Veronica, in particular, has not aged well at all. Upon the game's release, a number of fans actually considered it to be a step back, design-wise, from RE3, though the game's then-incredible visuals made up for it at the time. The game doesn't look so good now and is a rather dreary experience, plus it contains the single most obnoxious character ever to be found in a videogame: STEVE. You'll fucking hate him. Take my word for it.
I'm really excited for RE5. I thought RE4 was a really inspired game, and I appreciated that the environments and enemies were always changing and being updated throughout the game so that things wouldn't get boring. It is, at this point in time, my choice for game of the year. The graphics and presentation all felt a cut above everything else out there, and the action sequences were impressive and just plain fun. The only thing that bothered me was the dumb dialogue and humor in the MGS Codec-wannabe conversations -- no big deal.

Aside from having the most ridiculous anime-style villian in the series and little replay value, I liked RE0. Playing with two characters worked much better than I expected.

Resident Evil 0 was okay. I didn't find it as frightning as parts 1 and 2. The Leech man was freaky though. There is also an appearance by the famous Tyrant in this entry as well. The mystery behind the convict dude you get to play is interesting. I would have liked to have seen him in other Resident Evil games.
I would get Veronica if your a fan of Clair and Chris. Although, you don't get to control Chris until the later part of the game. I didn't care for Steve. I found him a bit annoying. Mostly because he looks like a certain movie character from Titanic. Also, some of the bosses are very well done and will keep you on your toes. My favorite was the Nosferatu and Alexia's final transformation. All in all, I found the game long and enjoyable but a little frustrating in certain areas.

RE4 was a bit more of an action game than it was survival horror, but I won't hold that against it since it did it so well.
Plus it has the best chainsaw through the neck sequence....EVER.
RE2 was more of an action game than a survival horror....
In terms of survival horror, the original and the remake (especially the mode with manual targeting and unlinked chests) are the best.
RE0 would be on my list too because of the difficulty level, but it was more survival annoyance then survival horror.
In terms of pure fun, then RE2 and RE4 are the undisputed kings.

Ok, I just got Resident Evil and it's pissing me off with the whole 'limited saves' system. I understand not having quicksaves (they take away from the horror) but the single save point should be enough, this ink stuff is bull. So I tried saving it but I used up all my ink and now I can't save! What the heck? Are all the RE games like this? I avoided this game for a long time and finely tried it and this feature is annoying me- I can't leave the game or turn it off or make any mistakes or I have to start all over. Ridiculous.

The only solution is to find more ribbon. There should be one by most typewriters and more scattered about the place, enough for about 30 saves in all, which is plenty to finish the game. If you're running out of ribbon it's either because you're saving too often or you haven't found it (Can be a little hard to spot sometimes).
IIRC RE 4 is the only RE game without ribbon (Not including the spin-off Surivior series).

It could be I'm 'saving too often' but as far as I'm concerned, that's my right...if I want to go through the trouble of running all the way back to the save point to save, I don't see why the game devs should stop me...
That said, when I finely found more save ribbon, my inventory was full. And the game for some reason won't let me clear or drop stuff from my inventory. So then I ran around looking for an item box, to put stuff in, to go back and get ink, to save, but I died in the process and have to start back near the beginning. What utter bullshit.

Its not your kind of game. Theres no point pissing yourself off just to play a game. The resident evil series ain't for you. Its no big deal, its not the definitive survival horror series anyway.
