So then, the RE5 demo.
First thing you notice? They borked the controls.
Again. Fuck being able to aim and move at the same time, that shit's for the birds - THIS BE RESIDENT FUCKIN' EVIL, BIATCH!!!
And then Zombie Chainsaw Guy runs up just as you were lining up that last shot and separates your motherfucking head from your neck.
Still, the presentation's outstanding. There's a cut scene with an executioner and an angry zombie village mob that looks so good that I thought it was pre-rendered, but no, it's real-time.
It's just that the polished next-gen sheen of the game's completely at odds with the clunky controls and how the game plays, as a result.
So, tl;dr version? Based on the demo, the game's basically RE4. But in Africa.
And don't you forget, it's RESIDENT MOTHAFUCKIN EVIL, BIATCH!!!:mad::mad:
EDIT: Also, I was lying. The game's really (

totally about boobs.

That's the reason I'm already loving it :p Also, even from the promo campaign and demo videos I can see it's a high quality product with bigger production value than RE4.
It should be great for fans of RE4 and perhaps games that drew inspiration from it, like GoW or Dead Space.

This is probably the best demo I've downloaded recently for my 360.
I think they added in strafing (even if it's slow as hell) but other than that I'll assume it was the same scheme as RE4 (I only played the Wii version). And yes, moving + shooting goes entirely against the whole point of the gameplay here. With the slow enemy movement, being able to backup while shooting or move side to side while shooting would kill much of the tension that the combat builds up.
RE4 in Africa? Why not?! It's gotten to the point I've realized where people will call anything "just an expansion hurrrr". Gears 2, Halo 3, and Call of Duty 4 have been called "just the old game with shiny graphics and new weapons." You know what? I don't want a significant change every sequel. I don't mind long-running franchises getting radical makeovers every few iterations, but not every game.

Heh, and that's fair. RE4 was a pretty awesome game. RE5's demo levels aren't remotely spooky or mysterious, though. You just run around and blow stuff up. Atmosphere quotient: zilch.
What also doesn't help, I suppose, is that everything's happening in broad daylight. Fair enough, though. Maybe Capcom wanted to woo the Gears crowd with the demo and the full game will be fairly well-rounded.
Awesome! Thanks for the link, 'smoke. :)

There are other ways of generating tension that would be less jarring to a player, don't you think? It's an artificial handicap that's making less and less sense with time, especially when you have games in the genre that flout this convention and manage to be just as tense.
You're not controlling some wimp who can barely aim. It's kind of silly that Chris - who was from a special police unit, and looks even more bad-ass this time - can't even step
sideways while he's pointing a gun.
The point will probably be moot anyway, as per the article gunsmoke linked to.

I do actually like the demo. I think it's a very polished experience. And I don't mind that it isn't significantly different in terms of story or structure or whatever. But I did expect it to play out a little differently, or at least build a little on what made the previous game great.
What I didn't expect was for it to play out
exactly like the very first hour of RE4 - get trapped in the middle of a zombie-infested town, hole up inside a building, block the entrances, shoot zombies as they enter, then run around and survive until the game decides you've had enough.
To be fair, the second level's better (even though it pulls out Zombie Chainsaw Guy in exactly the same fashion that RE4 did), so I have hope that the full game isn't going to be a complete retread of RE4 for the new console crowd.

That kotaku article is seven months old, in response to the controls seen at E3. The Capcom rep says don't be surprised if the controls are different at the Tokyo Game Show, which they were, and are basically the controls we are using now. I'm afraid we're stuck with the clunky control setup.

US Official PlayStation Magazine - 5 out of 5
Official Xbox Magazine - 9 out of 10
GamePro Magazine - 93%
From (
http://www.rehorror.net/v20/first-real-resident-evil-5-review) :
(minor spoilers included):
- GamePro could only make their own screenshots of the first three chapters. The later ones, they had to use Capcom's images due to an embargo
- It is all about the Progenitor virus
- Resident Evil 5 changes locations more often than Resident Evil 4 and the pace moves on immensly, especially after the first 10 minutes.
- The game is about 18 hours long.
- There's no location that is as big as the castle area in Resident Evil 4.
- The game is divided in 6 big chapters, each of them again divided into 3-4 areas.
- After the refinery, the game goes more for darkness (pyramids)
- GamePro counted 1 (!!!) real puzzle in Resident Evil 5.
- The emphasis is clearly on Co-Op. When a character is investigating something alone it usually deals with finding a key or moving something. GamePro says that these are the most intriguing situations as you wish your partner would be with you and help you fight the hordes of enemies.
- A few classic enemies are indeed in Resident Evil 5 (like the Licker)
- GamePro found the fights with Wesker very cool. They are absolutely dramatic and stunning.
- The visuals and audio are top notch.
- The PS3 version suffers a few glitches here and there, but they are not heavy.
- Resident Evil is gone, long live Resident Evil.
- They describe the game as an extremely entertaining, quick Tour de France with less horror.
- The overall review score is 93% for both PS3 and Xbox360 versions. Added to the PS3 graphics score was a note that the PS3 version suffers minor issues. GamePro's usual, separate multiplayer score for the game is 10/10.
- After completion of the game graphic filters, unlimited ammo, alternate costumes and an "arcade mode" among other things become available.

Resident Evil certainly has changed direction... Since this is coop, do you get a tandem?

Second player is controlled by CPU when you play in single player mode, check videos of the demo on youtube. And RE has changed direction since quite some time ago, with 4th installment.
Honestly speaking, RE never has been a horror game. Even the first games were laughable if compared with, say, SH or Forbidden Siren series, in terms of horror. Now it's just a great "survival action-adventure with dark atmosphere", and earlier it was "survival adventure-action with dark atmosphere"
