But February made me shiver
With every paper I'd deliver
Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn't take one more step
I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride
But something touched me deep inside
**The day the music died**
Quote:
Capcom UK's head of marketing, Dave Turner, pointed out to MCV ahead of the Resident Evil 6 reveal that action-focused Resident Evil 5 is in fact the series' biggest seller, and even revealed aspirations to attract Call of Duty players.
Asked why the series has taken a more action-focussed stance - specifically with Operation Raccoon City - Turner said:
"We've seen the popularity of Resident Evil increase massively as the series became more action oriented - Resident Evil 5 is the biggest seller in the series. So, it makes sense for us to follow this action area more fully."
He added of Operation Raccoon City: "The dream would be that the millions of Call of Duty fans that are enjoying these fast-paced online games are attracted to this Resident Evil."

Wasn't 5 supposed to be the last in the story, and they were going to reboot the series?

I actually liked RE5, but everything in that quote bubble is just terrible.

haha, oh wow! This looks like one to miss!
I'm not keen to make a judgement on a trailer, particularly one that's obviously focussed on being as cinematic as possible - but there were definitely a couple of parts that looked like gameplay. From those, it looks like this'll be full of those take-away-control-from-the-player-to-show-the-fancy-animation moments, topped with some barely interactive scripted sequences. Throw in some awfully delivered dialogue and those Call of Duty aspirations... oh dear.
Though I haven't played any RE since the the second one was new, so no great loss for me.

I have been a fan since the very first game, in all of its long-box glory. I haven't had a chance to play the 5th game, but I haven't played a bad RE game yet, and I even got all of the way through Dead Aim... This announcement is just wtf-ery. CoD? I don't get Capcom sometimes.

Rather RE5 2, which isn't bad. RE4 and RE5 weren't CoD at all, thanks to specific battle mechanics. I'd prefer more secluded locations though (like in RE4 f.e.) than that showed in the video.

RE5 2, whut? RE5 was more or less a shorter remake of RE4, with a graphical upgrade, change of setting and unwanted multiplayer functionality - guest starring Agent Smith as Wesker.
But don't be naive and believe that wouldn't have been influenced by Western action games during the development of RE6. They see contemporary Western manshoots selling 5 million+ copies and want a piece of that pie. RE5 started development back when the last generation of consoles was very much alive; long before the explosive success of Xbox 360, Gears of War and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

You say that like RE has never had a bad script before.
Jill sandwich, anyone?

I have to say, Resident Evil 4 is one of those games whose success completely baffles me. The entire genre doesn't do much for me, but I very much prefer the more psychological horror of Silent Hill in terms of plot, atmosphere and characters, and as a game I like Dead Space more. There's something about RE4 that eludes me.
But while there are things about the game where I'm happy to say "it's not you, it's me", I can state with complete confidence that the writing of RE4 is itself best described by "shit sandwich". And it sounds like it's still one of the best games of the series in terms of its writing.

Well, aye - but does that excuse it? Besides, I was specifically referring to the voice actor's delivery, not the actual writing. Was the writing itself that bad in the trailer? I can't even remember, but I'll be damned if I'm watching it again to find out.
