1. Resident Evil from its inception purposely paid homage to low budget, B-grade horror films. As brilliant of a film that George Romero's Night of the Living Dead is, let's not forget specifically what it is.
2. It's made by CAPCOM. Writing has NEVER been one of their strong suits. Why anyone have expectations to contrary is beyond me, since there's utterly no precedent for it.
3. All of the games have featured English as their native audio track. A being made by non-native English speakers screwing things up like script translation, acting direction, etc? It's not unfathomable.
3. Out of all of the games in the series, RE4 especially suggests that it was likely written to be clown shoes intentionally. The Napoleon-esque midget; stereotypical cartoonish Eurotrash villains in general; RESCUE THE PRESIDENT'S DAUGHTER... come on.

I can fathom how the first RE games were a hit on PS, albeit being fucking idiotic to control (and don't give me the bullshit of tension fixed camera angles create, yeah it's called frustration), but RE4 was such a horrible boring shitfest that there was no limits. There was nothing in it, just a slumbering mass of boring zombies coming at you in as in an arcade shooter (house of the dead-style), but without any of the tension. It was a sigh of relief, when I actually finished it with that useless boss fight.
Thus, I am happy they're saying COD-esque stuff, albeit I don't rate those games at all, it can hardly go into any worse direction than it has been.

I see. RE4 was a "horrible boring shitfest"... which you played till you finished it. You don't value your time very highly, do you?

Don't bother, henke. I value my time too much to respond to his nonsense; so should you.

Is someone paying you to play and complete games? Because you're making a hobby sound like a chore.

I'm one of those people who usually finish what they start and get deep traumas from unfinished story arcs. Plus I had my sister Wii on loan and I didn't find much else to play (Didn't enjoy Metroid much).
Sure, I was exaggerating somewhat, because it was ok till that lake monster boss when it started to get really boring.

I think I probably complete fewer than 50% of the games I start, but then I have (a) a hectic schedule to fit things around, (b) a fluctuating attention span, and (c) a low tolerance for anything which bores me.

There's a therapy available online for people like you, it's called Let's Play.

This wasn't exactly a pioneering effort by Capcom. Alone in the Dark set the stage and RE just followed the parameters of the genre.
Say what you will about RE4, nobody had done 3PS quite so well, especially in a SurHor setting. And it caught on.
Sure, you could probably argue that it helped the industry spawn Gears of War and all of the 3PS clones that came from it which were terribly boring and formulaic. But that's kind of like blaming Pearl Jam for Creed.
