My shame, I don't think I have ever completed RTC properly in all my years of being a taffer. I need to replay it but real life keeps getting in the way of any proper replay through the series. I think that it stands as the best gaming moment ever when I first time round figured how to break the level on my first play through (and yes I still claim to be the first (well first recorded) instance of the “cheat”). Hiding in the corner of the cathedral entrance, demonic whispers all around me, suddenly the doors creak shut leaving me in the dark. I froze in fear for about 2 minutes then slowly turned round and my heart only started to beat again when I realised I could reopen the door. "No F*ing way" was what was going through mine and garrett's head, "no freaking way I am heading into THAT building and letting the doors close behind me". It is a testament to the brilliance of the dark engine that I could play the level the way I wanted to, I had seen how realistic the engine was and considered that with enough stuff packed up against that door, it is not going to be able to close. And so I gathered all the junk I could in the area, this being the first time I had played it I had no idea of the level lay out or the engine limitations and so crawled along in fear during the whole process. When I had completed that task I headed into the building, I had seen from around the back what the inner floor of the cathedral looked like and figured again "no way". I headed up and with clever rope arrow use stole my prize with a lot of fear and tension, but little fuss. I headed for the door and ran screaming from that place only half understanding the eye’s ranting as garret fled into the old quarter, never to enter the cathedral again (or at least complete the full mission, I have explored around a bit)... for years I was asking myself "what is a sun burst device?" and I only released I had missed 3/4 of the mission when I came here and notices the discrepancies in peoples mission completion time. - I have to bite my tongue at jobs interviews I am so bloody proud of myself for that stunt

Maybe it's that
Side door spoiler
made this mission not that scary for me(What a pity...). And I felt
Murus sort of a tour guide...
I'd like to live in there if it was not those Apparations, Haunts and especially Zombies,
the Cathedral has got automatic doors, well, I mean doors there can close automaticaly, that can save time
:D
themetalian on 4/8/2006 at 11:12
Lol.. it is true that automatic doors do save some time, but they are there mainly due ot the "spooky" effect, and adds to the atmosphere.
Hmmm. I'm not sure if I would go as far as wanting to live in the cathedral. It will feel like I'm sort of monk or hermit! :weird:
Palantir on 4/8/2006 at 12:35
I like the automatic door particularly, indeed, if it was not the automatic door I won't live there, but think of it: an automatic door! In Medieval! It should be cool just to tell others: Look! We've got cool automatic door that will close automatically! And I'm sure this will made Hammerites mad:D
Well... They are for the "spooky" effect? I thought it was kind of Hammerite technology... Oh, missed another scary element....
Should have a look at the replies.
BTW, why don't they set automatic doors in Cradle?
Raven on 4/8/2006 at 13:27
it could have been a funny in joke - but that might have ruined the fantastic atmosphere.

Actually, you don't need to jump on the hammer at all. Just creep to the very edge and lean forward. Nobody will see you at all.
I never jumped on the hammer either. I shot two rope arrows in succession and then jumped there. :) Of course when going back again, I retrieved my rope arrows as well. I always do that. :)

That's funny, I never even thought of jumping on the hammer. I always lean and grab.
leaning from where? IMO the distance is to big. At least I never found a place where I could frob it like this.

You assumed some machinery was causing every single door to close itself, even though no machinery was visible, and this doesn't happen anywhere else in the entire game?
:nono:

Perhaps this Cathedral is special.

Good point, maybe it can be the work of those Keepers?
If no Keepers, no Hammerites, what can make a door close like that? The Eye?
Goldmoon Dawn on 6/8/2006 at 17:05
Well, geez. Let's see...
Its not the "Mechanist Cathedral", or the "Keeper Cathedral"... Oh yeah!
The "Haunted" Cathedral.
And no, of course you cant get the Eye from leaning over the balcony.
:p
