A couple months ago I started a blog reviewing free to play (Also known as F2P) MMOs, which I have dubbed (
http://www.gaxonline.com/profile/JoshuaPaquette) Free Play.
It releases on a weekly basis, and I alternate with my best friend;him doing the even numbered ones, and me doing the odd numbered ones.
My first and most recent reviews:
(
http://www.gaxonline.com/profiles/blog/show?id=1511077%3ABlogPost%3A157728) Free Play #1: Exteel
(
http://www.gaxonline.com/profiles/blog/show?id=1511077%3ABlogPost%3A178982) Free Play #11: HellGate:London
My best friend's reviews:
(

Now, I know this pretty much comes across a plug, but I really want to know what TTLG thinks of our work. Read it all, read only one, whatever you want.
Was it too dry? Was it not serious enough? Does it look like there's progression from 1 to 11? Is the most recent review worse than the previous? Is it "meh", or is it fantastic?
These are the questions I'd like to have answers to, and anything else you all would be willing to tell me.
I really enjoy doing the writing, and I want it to become successful.
But, instead of me asking all of you to just post links of it everywhere, (Which, of course, I won't complain if you do) I want you to tell me how I can make it better, so that people will
want to read it.
On a last note, I'd like to say thanks in advance to everyone who's willing to spend the time to read and critique my/our work.

Haven't finished them all, yet, but so far so good!

The hellgate london review reads more the like a preview then anything else. There's nowhere near enough critical edge.
Plus, for a site that is supposedly catering to MMORPGs, you really seem to be missing your audience. Balance issues, content patching and updating, in game economy, ease of maintaining contact with friends - you don't touch on these things, and these are all issues that would be critical to the audience you're after.

Reviews of free to play MMOs, are you a masochist? :D
Anyway, I read your Hellgate review. It did an adequate job of informing me of the game's mechanics and such.
However, this particular sentence was quite painful to read:-
Military grade armor for the hunters, for instance, although it has more shields than armor, it has more armor and smaller amounts of shields than the other hunter armors.

You can't use the phrase "mound of crap", swiftly followed by the word "crappy" and expect anyone to take you seriously as a writer.

Ulukai, although your in depth response and constructive criticism is noted, I don't quite see the term "Crappy" being used in a separate section of the blog can be qualified as "Swiftly" being used again.

Twas used in the following adjacent paragraphs:
Quote:
Now, I'm sure we've all heard about the terrible crash that was Hell Gate:London, and what a
mound of crap it was. However, after I caught news of the fact that Namco Bandai had agreed to keep the servers going in Flagship Studios time of need, my interest had finally been piqued, and I decided I'd make a sacrifice just for you guys on Gax, to tell you how the game has progressed.
I'm a sucker for a good story, I've played through a lot of
crappy games just because I just had to know what happens next.
Let's not quibble over the definition of swiftly. To be honest, I couldn't be bothered to read any more after reading the above. But on a positive note, at least you didn't use "sucked".
