Meaning no disrespect and not to judge either of you, take sides or to interfere with your repartee, this slug-fest is starting to spill over into a variety of threads, diverting them to your vigorous disagreement.
I thought perhaps a dedicated thread would provide a forum with adequate room to swing, without further bruising your fellow TTLGers.

Not a solution at all.
If you really want to fix it, the next time a discussion about law, economics or finance comes up, and I provide a reasoned, thoughtful analysis, based on actual experience, only to be met with his obsessive need to challenge me, fueled by paranoia, ideology and resentment, you could actually engage in a thoughtful reply yourself, instead of throwing spitballs from the sidelines, painting an equivalency-which-doesn't-exist, and rolling your eyes.
I could use a little backup. This shit is tedious for me as well, but the reason that this community used to be so great at self policing is because it would reward knowledge and punish ignorance, instead of just sitting back and allowing "that's just, like, your opinion, man" to rule the day when every two bit nutbag comes along.
So yes, judge us. To say otherwise is a cop out. I know i'm a nasty, aggressive piece of shit at times - i'm not oblivious. But I also know i'm right more often than not, and I direct my aggression only at those who deserve it. And for anyone to pretend that his sniping is remotely equivalent to what I offer is just as delusional as he is.

RBJ is certainly right that the dynamic has changed. Part of it is the lack of self-policing, but I'd argue that that primarily stems from reduced member count and a lack of other stuff going on. What once would have been one of many running spats in the forum has literally come to dominate the majority of threads. I, for one, am certainly not intending to sideline snipe; yet I lack the knowledge to directly engage in the subjects its typically about, and I have absolutely no idea how I can get the miserable cycle to end.
Again, the issue isn't the spat so much as that it's the only game in town. Which is the nature of forums attached to more-or-less dead central hubs, though I'm hoping the release of DX:HR will draw a few new souls in. But that only works if we're in the least bit welcoming.

I never expected this thread to actually be a solution. I tried to raise the issue of the escalating inter-thread running battles (if it even is one) without offering any sort of biased offense. A lighthearted jab that clearly missed the mark or hit a sensitive one.
No equivalencies, stated or implied, were seriously intended.
As far as offering backup on matters of US economy, law and politics, I am a foreign observer. The best I can do and have done is to ask questions and hope they are relevant.
RBJ, we all know you can be savage and that you usually have good reason for it but maybe once in a while you could just let CCToad sound off without dignifying him with a response. Most people here don't need daily reminders of who has their finger on the pulse and who has it up their ass.
Maybe I am alone in asking this but I had to try.
