Well, I know that RBJ is determined to persuade me to change his arch-nemesis' name to "Massengil" even just for a little while.
I still think that this deserves more consideration.

RBJ realizes that CCToad is nothing more than a troll, but he tirelessly counters his idiocy so that nobody else gets swept along by the stupid.
Every day, he stood up on the edge of the cliff, exactly the moment the sun rises.
"Any minute now..."
The thought he had every morning as he scouted the vast barren plains through the looking glass passed onto him by the very man before him.
"Any minute now..."
He thought again, as he spotted the locust on the horizon. A dark and unintelligible cloud of ash and shards rapidly approaching from seemingly nowhere, hopping like a toad from rock to rock, bush to bush, consuming all in its path with ease unknown to any living being. He wasn't able to think it for the third time as the cloud rapidly climbed up the steep cliff, undaunted by any silly forces such as gravity.
And it covered him. Completely, and passionately. And it burned, excruciatingly. Some would later say, it was like getting a rug-burn simultaneously at every single inch of your body. They were underestimating. But he didn't even scream. Not anymore; he knew that screaming didn't help. Some would later say, he even grew to enjoy it.
He twitched gently, letting it consume him, waiting for the sundown. Time. Only time would make it give up, leave, only to return the next day for another failed attempt. Like tides rising in the morning, or the moon enlightening a darkening sky - a process that would repeat itself daily. But at least, it made the locust stop here.
One man who gave himself in so others could go on.
Every day.

Having reached a higher state of annoyed than the rest of us
I think this is key. Thing is, it's really fucking annoying when you have a pretty thorough knowledge about a subject and try to educate people, and some nitwit who has read a couple of articles about it constantly pipes in pretending to be an expert, and some other people who know next to nothing about the subject seem to fall for it because his shit sounds pretty smart to a layman's ear. I really hate it when someone does that about computers or other stuff that I know something about. For example, I'm extremely annoyed by lost_soul's complete lack of understanding of how the games industry operates (and his tremendous sense of entitlement) and I recently lashed out at Koki, which I shouldn't have, because he was spreading a widely held but completely false misconception about autism.
RBJ needs to understand (maybe he does, I don't know) though that even people like me, who know nothing about finance and have only a cursory understanding of American politics, are still smart enough not to give equal weight to CCCToad's opinion as to the opinion of people like himself and demagogue.

And Nicker, this was a stupid fucking idea for a thread.
I half agree with you and wish I hadn't made it but then it has been a useful discussion too, IMO.
It's not like I haven't (
http://ttlg.ttlg.mobi/forums/showthread.php?t=136000) had a go at troll slaying myself and taken some lumps for it. I know correspondence doesn't equal causality but shortly after that thread, Llama headed for the mountain pastures and hasn't bleated a whole lot since. (And if these threads combined are cause enough ban me, GBM, so be it.)
I'm not against the disciplining of trolls but get it done or let them starve.
That and this:

As terrible as Nicker threads are, I don't think it's worth banning him for. ;)

All this thread does is point out what a poor job the rest of us do at calling peoples bullshit out. We sit on the sidelines and treat someone actually arguing a point like some kind of spectacle. I ran out of energy to argue politics with people a long time ago, but show some appreciation for someone actually having a worthwhile discussion for once.
As for CCCToad, I think he tries to pretend to be more reasonable than he is just because the majority of people disagree with him. I've argued with many such people. He actually kind of reminds me of (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Breitbart) Andrew Breitbart on Bill Mahar (HBO show). I'll bet he's far douchier in reality, only giving on issues he know he'll get even more torn apart on so the dumb shit he DOES cling to will somehow be appear more reasonable.
It fails miserably of course across the board, but god damn its hard to muster the energy to argue with people like that, knowing that there is a seemingly endless amount of them. The only hope seems to educate people earlier. Once you turn into CCCToad you are pretty much fucked (and thereby so are the rest of us that have to deal with it).
Cheers RBJ for fighting the good fight. I'll try to pitch in here and there if you don't beat me to it.

I will say, it's nice to see the lurkers in this thread!
But yeah, solution 2 (other than "don't just leave it to RBJ") is for us to actually post a larger variety of interesting threads. I dunno. Maybe attempts to "save" the forum are foolish and naive and one should just let it take its course. I keep going back and forth, but have yet to take the step of jumping to another forum, mostly because I'm too lazy to re-learn all the personalities of a place.
Edit: Incidentally, I remember a thread on "other forums TTLGers hang out at" but can't seem to find it. Anyone remember what it was called?

Why not just compare me to Hitler instead
See!
But hey, I should apologise if you were indeed mostly right. It's not my fault for thinking of you as the ultra-manichean type unable to see the big picture and basing their whole line of reasoning on dubious inferences and convenient shortcuts.
BTW I don't think Hitler was such a person!
