Don't worry, Palin's going to run and split the vote (oh please please please be true. I so badly want to see that campaign).
The smart money seems to be on Mitt Romney. It's just a question of who's running with him. Perry can command the masses to pray for ...er... fiscal liquidity. Michelle Bachman on the other hand was commanded by god to take over the world, or something.
They should get together and have a fight like at the end of Dark City.

Please tell me no such thing will happen. Could rank and file republicans actually support his bid or would that be cutting their own throats?
He's going to be the nominee, although thats more the result of the fact that the groups that support the GOP want Perry to be the nominee.
I also remember being called "fucking stupid" for making this assertion earlier, and that there was a "complete lack of evidence"

God clearly (
http://www.kltv.com/story/15250522/thirsty-texans-turn-to-wastewater-to-ease-drought) rejects Rick Perry's (
http://motherjones.com/mojo/2011/04/rick-perry-asks-texans-pray-rain) prayers so I don't see how he's fit to be president.
With more seriousness though, we won't know exactly just how much of a shitfest the republican primary will be until Palin makes her final decision, which is apparently set for next month. I'm actually halfway expecting her to make some overwrought announcement near the 9/11 anniversary - she's egotistical and classless enough to do it.
Pawlenty's smart to save his money and drop out now, though. He knows his chances of success depended on sucking voters from Bachmann, and so do Perry's, but he doesn't have quite the same sparkle Perry does.
But what are we to take from the Ames straw poll? Probably nothing, if we're being smart. But the fact that Ron Paul was right on Bachmann's heels makes me wonder how much longer the fundamentalist/libertarian dichotomy of the republican party will hold.

Bachmann+Paul speaks less to the break between fundamentalists and libertarians, so much as it speaks to the consolidation of "crazy, ignorant extremists" as the guiding force of the Republican base.

Canada, please get your act together and make a universal equivalent to the ADA so I can move to Vancouver and get the fuck out of here.
Seriously, I hate sounding like all my friends circa 2004 because they're retarded, but if Paul, Bachmann or Perry get the nomination that's the end of it for me, the GOP and the people who vote for them have officially lost their fucking minds. I'd fear for my financial security, and if Bachmann actually won the election I'd fear for my safety as well.

I wouldn't worry so much about Paul.
His anti-war stance ensures that he will never have the support of any real power players, and therefore he will never have the kind of cash he needs to go toe to toe with Perry or Romney.

Implying that Paul supporters are crazier than Bush supporters seems like a bit of a stretch, unless you're referring to the religious-bent Paul has.
