We're queer... we're here... for the cock buffet!
Cock, it's what's for dinner.

It started off looking sort of rational...

While RBJ's summary of our current economy looks well rationed and accurate, I think that the Paul goldbugger camp is a natural result of societies' urge to cut away market abstractions to see the underlying mechanisms.
...
But clearly, underneath the surface... something was wrong...

I am pretty much a hard-core utopian communist. ... If we have to live in a capitolist world ...
And from there, into madness...

The problem is: if we accept that our current capittolist system is the best possible solution, what happens when self-assembling nanotechnology makes all physical production obselete and AI makes all mental labor obselete? Do we now live with the terrible end-game conclusion that a small fraction of industrialists own every means of production and require no labor? If the rest of humanity cannot provide anything to trade or barter to this small population of elites, what will happen to them? I'd rather live with my foolish idealisms that humans can evolve past the need to compete and trade than face those bleak scenarios. Maybe it is a form of willful ignorance but any moral stance could be accused of the same.
Typos and all, this was a terrifying insight into degenerative madness.
Outside of that, thank you again RBJ for your insightful commentary - never fail to learn something when you cut loose on some fool about shit you care about. :cheeky:

Cyberpunk madness is the best form of madness
Some day when we are admitted to the Federation of Planets, RBJ's Ferengi leanings will keep him out of the galactic conference.
The Socialist and Communists will eventually win. :)

Where is that gif from? And what were they laughing at?
To go off on a small tangent - how the hell do all these total nutjobs get into politics in the US? How can Bachman even be considered as running for anything meaning anything? We used to have nutters in politics over here but Screaming Lord Sutch died a while ago and The Monster Raving Loony party was just for the lols anyway. I mean, have you seen Bachmann's latest batshit nonsense about HPV vaccines? W.T.F. America?

Oh, we get them over here too. I give you exhibit B: Northern Irish politics.

To come clean: I am pretty much a hard-core utopian communist. I find it utterly wasteful that humans spend so much thought on an economy when there shouldn't be an economy.
I'm pretty much the same, but I think the current system can be saved if they just stop wasting people's money on the military, multinationals, and instead put it where it belongs. It's all about balance. That's what they do in northern European countries, and there's barely any poverty or crime there

It does seem to me that socialism of some sort will eventually win, but it is on Trek time scales unfortunately.
In the mean time...we're in the mean time.
