Not sure how comforting the news of Perry's exit really is. This increases the likelihood that there will be an unholy, reactionary monopoly north of the Rio Grande. The USA can weather these storms but I am not sure how much further the Canadian ship of state can list to the right without suffering permanent damage.
Mostly though, I am concerned about how this news will impact CCToad's delicate self-esteem.

Being from Dallas he was an embarrassment to the city as well as the state, thank god he decided to pull out, smartest thing he's done yet. Can I leave America now? Pleaseeeee. I've had enough.

For once, I'm actually glad to be wrong. It still does seem odd to me that the GOP didn't push him more strongly though, as he had the support of some extremely influential lobbying interests. Unfortunately it makes little difference. Both him and Romney(and Obama, for that matter) are identical in their positions on the issues that actually matter. The two are equally in favor of redistribution of the wealth (from bottom to top) through any means from bailouts to tax loopholes to unevenly enforced regulation , curbing civil liberties in the name of "security", expanded and continued military adventures in the Middle East, and against any laws that impede corruption.
With the exception of Paul's wacky economic theory and sensible foreign policy positions, the entire GOP cast could easily be replaced with a set of droids all programmed to repeat the same extremist talking points.
