You know, I read your link.
And it's clearly "How to Create jobs: Do not give a fuck about the quality of those jobs you create."
Repeal all laws doing anything whatsoever to regulate abuse of employees by employers, and the free market will solve all those problems. Yeah, we've seen that particular approach. That's why we have all those regulations in the first place - the end result was conditions unbelievably horrid for anyone who wasn't a capitalist.
Yeah, no thanks.

Aside from generating some fizziness in the economy (your national workiness), it also leaves you in an inordinately better off position when you get out of the hard times if your public sector has taken it on the chin and and responded by investing in your workforce, infrastructure and whatnot.
Whereas here in the UK it's austerity all the way thanks to a Government that's a majority owned subsidiary of the Banking Sector. Ain't nobody gonna invest in you now or later if your big economic plan is to stagnate through the hard times (edit - or if you follow Kitties linky - use the opportunity to become a banana republic).
Finance != Economics. Neither for that matter are Pounds and Dollars standard index units.
--edit--
Coo, just read the linky too. Where do you find them? I'm not sure that investing in energy, public infrastructure, education, health, social programmes etc etc counts as digging ditches and filling them in again. At least not unless you've a mighty big chip on your shoulder and are so hilariously biased that you probably shouldn't be offering counsel to a house committee anyway.

I think you're a tad obsessed, dethy. Why don't you get a life, hm? I think I recommended DrowTales then because that's when I first found it and it was neat at first. Then I got very sick of how anime-ish it was.

Also, I'm just going to defer to RBJ, because unlike you, he actually knows what the fuck he's talking about. If he tells you to fuck off, it's because he has very little tolerance for ignorant nonsense like what you're spouting out...
The point of discussion is to learn more, otherwise why the fuck are any of us on this message board to begin with? RBJ may well be absolutely correct and myself absolutely wrong, but so far it looks to me like we just have differing points of opinion on a hotly-debated topic and it's really either way. I find it funny that you don't know enough to actually respond intelligently, deth, so you hide behind someone smarter than you and stick your tongue out, going, "nah, nah" and accepting whatever is said as your position outright because you can't think up a position on your own. I may be wrong, but I'm at least using my brain and what I know to try to come to a reasonable conclusion, here.

parroting from your professor, who clearly doesn't know what he's talking about -- and no, having a PhD doesn't mean he does.
Funny, can you explain to me WHY my professor doesn't know what he's talking about? What, you don't actually know and you're just parroting what RBJ says? Yeah, I thought so.
Quote Posted by dethtroll
Also, Jesus Christ your skin is so thin it must be like paper. It's like talking to Jashin only you haven't started calling anyone who disagrees with you "stupid like a woman," so there's that I guess.
Why SHOULD I bother to be more tolerant when I'm being attacked by you? I didn't even remember who you were until you reminded me, and I only knew because you insisted on attacks. Hell, that's where my initial report of you came from, anyway. So I don't see why you're asking for tolerance of your trollish nature when you give no reason to tolerate it.

True, you don't want to remove ALL regulation, but I think that there is a middle ground that encourages job growth but doesn't throw all ethics out the window.

The problem is WHERE investments are going. Government subsidies are going to places like Cylindra, which was just a big waste of American dollars because the President wants to force a futuristic energy system that we just aren't technologically prepared to deliver. Instead of investing (or lifting regulation) on existing energy resources, such as coal, oil, natural gas, and even nuclear he's trying to choke down those industries and push solar and wind power. Problem is that solar and wind power not only aren't efficient, they're not always available in the quantities one needs.
Really, the best option for clean, safe power is hydroelectric, but not everywhere has a river powerful enough to power another Hoover Dam, so in lieu of that, we either need to settle for energy that isn't always where we need it when we need it (solar, wind) or we need to bring the energy to us (fossil fuels, nuclear). I don't feel that this administration has a strong grasp on reality in this regard.
As for public infrastructure, if you mean roads and such, that is handled by state governments (or in some cases, counties), but not the federal dollars (at least in most cases). Education isn't being improved by throwing more money at it because of regulation that keeps poor teachers in schools and forces learning curriculums that don't necessarily work (No Child Left Behind--my parents are teachers by profession, so I'm aware of regulation having a negative effect on education). Also, see "Waiting for Superman."
As for social programs, I don't see how those can be seen as "investments." Are you talking about Welfare? Because, as someone who grew up on a Native American reservation, I can tell you that Welfare has an enormous power to harm by creating a dependent, lazy culture that has no employable skills and merely leeches off of taxpayer money. If you're talking about Social Security, it's not really an investment because it's not meant to support our future, just our retirees.

A) deferring to someone who clearly knows more than you is generally better than saying "GO HIDE BEHIND UR FRIENDS LOSER: IMMA FORM MAH OWN OPINION": being ignorant and loud is not actually better than just being ignorant.
B) having a PhD doesn't actually mean shit in academic circles. It's like..having a valid drivers licence: it shows you have a level of competence but by no means does it mean you're the economics equivalent of Michael Schumacher.
C) While Dethtoll keeping THAT many records is quite worrying, in this instance it's also

Oh, I'm starting with what I understand from what more knowledgeable people than myself know, too. The difference here is that I'm trying to have a discussion to better my understanding, while dethy just wants to mock me. He really doesn't give a shit what's correct; he just really, really wants me to be wrong.

I defer to RBJ because he actually works in the field that we're discussing. Maybe he's smarter than me, maybe he isn't, but he certainly knows more about this particular subject than I -- or you. And I don't agree with him on everything anyway.

Except your professor is effectively blaming everything on corruption (and remember, I'm going off by what YOU have told us your professor has said, so if the assessment is incorrect, it's your fault) when it's more complicated than that.

Haha, I'm not asking for tolerance (and for the record you've been a pretty good cheerleader for intolerance yourself!) I'm asking for you to quit flailing your arms around and acting like you're superior because someone told you you're spouting nonsense. You're ignorant. You have a history of ignorance. You have demonstrably shown a lack of knowledge on every subject you've ever talked about. You're like CCCToad with less demonstrated self-hatred/homophobia (with him they're the same thing.) Your whole reaction to people telling you you're wrong is to thrust out your hips and go BAWWW BUT IT'S JUST MY OPINION, WHY YOU GOTTA BE SO MEEEEEEN. Grow a thicker skin and maybe a pair of balls, because otherwise the real world is going to eat you alive if you break down at the first sign of pointing and laughing. And you don't have a lot of capital here; attacking knowledgeable longtimers like RBJ -- however acerbic they may be -- is just asking for trouble.
Also, you're not winning any points with the "dethtroll" thing. Not only is it not clever, it's been done before. So don't go thinking you're oh so witty. Don't go throwing "troll" around like it means anything, because unless we're talking about Koki it fucking doesn't. Just because someone thinks you're stupid doesn't make them a troll. It makes them someone who thinks you're stupid.
Can't handle that?

You're clearly not paying attention. I'm not just saying, "hey, I disagree because my professor said so." I'm going into in-depth explanations of why I disagree and I'm offering links to corroborate my points. Also, while I don't doubt that RBJ is highly educated in this, it's funny how you're assuming that he knows it all. Do
you actually understand it well enough to confirm that what he's saying is true? Because I highly doubt that you do.

See above point. Overall, I think you're the most ignorant person in this discussion, dethtoll. I'm at least making an effort to understand RBJ's stance and express my differing opinion and find where the true divergence is. You're just a cat-calling crackerjack-cruncher.

I certainly didn't go into detail about what he said, mostly because I don't remember the details. But you're right; I probably did very poorly state his position.

I've never begrudged RBJ for being more knowledgeable than I. I'm annoyed by his lack of tact when he could just state the facts straight out and that would be sufficient. The mockery isn't necessary.
