Insanity is a mental illness of such a severe nature that a person cannot distinguish fantasy from reality, cannot manage his/her own affairs, or is subject to uncontrollable impulsive behavior
Being wrong hardly fits the actual definition of Insanity. Besides, what's more ludicrous: Paul's campaign against "fiat" money or invading Iraq because God told you to?
Or, for all the other's who wave the flag of "crazy" at anyone who isn't a Reid Democrat or Boehner Republican:
Quote:
The most significant point highlighted by this attack on Grayson as "crazy" is that, in our political discourse, the two party establishments typically define what is "sane," and anyone outside of those parameters is, by definition, "crazy." "Crazy" is the way that political orthodoxies are enforced and the leadership of the two political parties preserved as the only viable choices for Sane People to embrace. Anyone who tiptoes outside of those establishment parameters -- from Ron Paul on the right to Dennis Kucinich on the left, to say nothing of Further Left advocates -- is, more or less by definition, branded as "crazy" by all Serious, mainstream people.
The converse is even more perverse: the Washington establishment -- which has endorsed countless insane policies, wrought so much destruction on every level, and has provoked the intense hatred of the American citizenry across the ideological spectrum -- is the exclusive determinant for what is "sane." As long as one remains snugly within its confines, one will be shielded from the "crazy" appellation regardless of how many genuinely crazy views one embraces. Positing proximity to the Washington Establishment -- of all things -- as the Hallmark of Political Sanity is about as irrational as it gets, yet that continues to be the barometer of Political Normalcy.
.....
re there positions held by people like Kucinich, Paul and Grayson that are fairly characterized as radical and wrong? Certainly: that's true for everyone, most of all the mavens of the Washington Establishment whose followers claim a monopoly on Sanity and demonize as Crazy all who deviate. But between establishment crazies and those who have been marginalized by them as Crazy, the former have wrought far more damage than the latter. It's not even a close call. There are many legitimate ways to measure Craziness; the extent to which one deviates from the orthodoxies of the political establishment is most assuredly not one of them. If anything, given the character and record of the American political establishment, such deviation is a necessary (though not sufficient) condition for actual sanity.

@ SD: Palin isn't clinically insane. She knows exactly what she's doing: Attention Whoring. Palin's the Paris Hilton of politics.

Why are you being such a pedantic douchebag?
I stand by my assessment: I've read his books. He has a fantasy about the monetary system which has nothing to do with reality. Yes, when the subject of economics comes up, I am quite comfortable saying that he has a mental illness. Again: kind of like you.
Why are you bothering? I have no interest in having a discussion with you, and you are simply choosing to pick yet another fight which you will lose... has your resentment of me really gotten that bad?

Coming from somebody who demonstrates several clinical symptoms of sociopathy.
And, hey, I'm not arguing with you that he's wrong about economics. It just seem odd to label only him insane when the "respectable" politicians routinely take positions at least as crazy as his views.
edit: besides, the guy wants to legalize weed. That's not half bad.

There you go again, drawing false equivalencies. Just shut the fuck up.
CCCToad on 15/8/2011 at 19:35
There is no equivalency at all.
Its the mainstream politicians who make proclamations that greed is good, that god has officially sanctioned invading other countries, that corporations are people, that calling somebody a "terrorist" means that all their rights are instantly suspended, that Sharia Law in America is an imminent threat, that it would be better if America were a dictatorship for a day so all the "right" things could be done, and that torture is necessary and justified that are clearly deranged in the head.
Having some severe economic misconceptions comes nowhere near that. Its not Paul thats insane.

I always cringe when I load up TTLG and see CCCToad's name a bunch of times in the "last post by" field.

Aw, leave the guy alone.

I just wish RBJ and CCCToad would mutually ignore each other (in the "ignore button" sense). No offense, guys, but it tends to take every single one of these threads off the rails.
