My prediction: Perry and/or Bachmann will remain in the spotlight until it's time for people to actually lay down their vote. But by the time we reach the big primaries, the party will rally behind Romney who will win the nomination going away. He'll then lose the general election by a decisive but not embarrassing margin.
Why do I think this? Because even though Perry and Bachmann and Palin are telling the numptys in the party what they want to hear, everybody knows they're unelectable and don't have the ability to run the country. So just like the Democrats did with Howard Dean in 2004, the Republicans are going to get cold feet and turn away in favor of the mainstream candidate. And Mitt Romney is going to suffer from the same enthusiasm gap as John Kerry. Because even though his record is that of a sane, center-right pragmatist, he's such an obvious pandering fake that nobody can get behind him except as a lesser of two evils.

Ands that`s the board`s resident economic/politico expert.
I`d lol if I had any energy left, but rather have a shower....brrr.
oh, do tell.
You're new here, so a certain level of don't-know-what-the-fuck-you're-talking-aboutedness is to be expected, but I assure you, your cheap cynicism with respect to me is unwarranted, both in the abstract, and most certainly when launching off of the ad hominems of a troll such as Toad, whose underlying assumptions, and specifically facts in this instance, veer wildly from reality.
So you can take your 'lol' and kindly shove it up your fucking ass... mmmkay?

Its good to hear others who don't want to see any off the republican nominees ever take office. If only we could have more Bernie Sanders in congress. But again thanks to Azaran and Rug Burn for making really good points.A lot of what you stated is exactly how I feel about this whole mess.On regard to the Troll\Toad what can't really expect good and sound reasoning from a Ron Paul Fanatic. My one complaint about Obama is that he hasn't been progressive enough and his continuing attempts to compromise with the republicans alienates his base and harms the nation. One shouldn't try to negotiate with those who don't want to since they openly state they want you to fail.Especially in the house with all those representatives from the tea party also know has my continual source of annoyance because of how clueless they are.

Obama's re-election is a forgone conclusion. The Republican party is drunk and stumbling. Independents are afraid of it. Many centrist Republicans have gone into the closet and silently support Obama. Even if they don't like Obama they'll stay home rather than vote for the any of the Republicans running.
The question is whether Democrats can fire up their base enough to win back the House. In the present situation, there's not much choice but to negotiate with Republicans because the executive branch can't function without the support of the House. Think about it. All appropriations originate in the House. If you're going to blame Obama for something, blame him for squandering his opportunity at united government in 2009 and 2010.
I don't know Bernie Sanders all that well, but he strikes me as just another protectionist who thinks that the middle class economic utopia of 1950s-1960s America can be restored simply by throwing up trade barriers and imposing confiscatory taxes.
EDIT: Damn page break. This is mainly in reply to maxrebo6.

A presidential reelection with a crappy economy? In theory Republicans should have no chance of losing this. But they can still throw it away...

It better to be a protectionist then either and objectivist or christian dominionists because those two groups are completely clueless about everything.
We should stop giving subsides to corporations or agriculture since those aren't doing the deficit or pretty much anyone any favors.Raise Taxes on high income earners, bring back and raise capital gains, dividend, and estate taxes and institute a robin hood tax on financial transactions.Put the financial industry on a tight leash to discourage the unethical practices that got us into this mess.
Stop Wall Street Speculation that drives up prices ignoring supply and demand, all middle and working class families to keep more of their money so in can flow into the the economy and grow gdp which will create more jobs for American workers.Protectionism wouldn't works since we can't compete with china since they aren't exactly playing by the rules. The only way we could compete with them would involve drive millions of Americans into serfdom which could actually become a reality.
We also need to fix the educational system and make college more affordable in order to have a better educated populous along with rebuilding our manufacturing base.Only when things are good should even consider cutting spending to fix the deficit. We need to find a way to deal with our problems humanly since It upsets to see income deciding who has any human rights in the country.Raging against abortion while at the same time cutting of the life line for many struggling families because that makes so much sense.Frankly if your super rich how is a little less pocket change gonna hurt you their whining is almost infantile. Its one thing to complain about hunger or losing ones home its another to complain about paying taxes when you have it all.I just wanna see an America were you can work hard and get ahead while at the same time not having being a CEO or owning your own business for isn't that kind of labor still valued anymore. In my own town I can see the decay our society has taken and knowing what it was and how much better it could be while avoid the debt issues of Europe. Not all people are looking to live in a mc mansion some just want to live comfortably where its not just work all the time and pay bills and nothing in between for that is no way to live.

If this was the Republican party of the 80s or 90s, Obama would be in trouble. But today's Republican party is a train wreck. Unless a charismatic new leader emerges in short order, a modern day Teddy Roosevelt type, the only thing that can derail Obama's re-election would be a major scandal.

I would love to see a person who stood for the same beliefs of either of the Roosevelts. Now those two were a president you could love.
