You're being chased by guards and you hop into the back of the cart and pull a tarp over you. The cart continues on its way [that could end a mission]
Or, its in the middle of a mission and you're stealthily hitching a ride to a certain point. You have a peep hole in the tarp, maybe you don't know which streets the cart will go down so you have to get out by/before a certain point.
The mission doesn't have to end if you blackjack the cart or coach driver. What if the coach just stops when the driver gets konked and you can't make the horses go again? Or as I've heard the horses only have one speed thats easily steerable, meanwhile as also said before exposed on a horse or cart you're more likely to be shot with arrows if they know you stole it. Or they're alerted if you drive erratic when they didn't know you stole it.
But if you can stealthily pick up a cart and drive it through the correct streets to the guy that will buy that sort of stolen property, I think could be a good "make some extra money" addition. Cart or horse in a narrow street would be noticed though. And Garrett driving a horse cant bob and weave to make arrows miss. He has to leave the cart/horse to keep from being shot over and over.
All other streets besides the main one in any area are narrow and pedestrians only.
Also, I agree the street shouldn't be full of horses, there should just be one once in a while. One cart goes by in 8 -10 minutes or something. Theres one parked somewhere that never goes anywhere for looks. And if garrett gets too close to horses in stalls they whinny alerting the guard.
Its generally night time when Garrett goes out so traffic would be low anyway. Though its high time for a day mission. Probably in disguise.

After careful consideration I'm going to have to pass on the idea of having carts of any sort in Thief outside of cutscenes. As hijackables they would really just break the feel of the game, stealth would become either near impossible or ridiculously easy (if people were set to ignore you when you were driving a cart). As non-hijackables they would simply take up too much space in Thief's wonderfully claustrophobic streets thereby forcing the devs to expand them into wide boulevards which would really detract from the game in my opinion. As for adding more animal life to the City, I'm all for it. As long as it doesn't get to the point where there's a dog on every corner it would only serve to make the City feel more alive.

I always loved the sound of a dog barking in the distance in Thief (& FMs). Somehow it made it more realistic and immersive. What would really make me giggle would be if Garrett rounds a corner and there in someone's back yard is a dog that starts barking at him; all of a sudden a window flies open in that house & the dog's owner starts yelling at the dog to shut up.

This goes along for me with ascottk's advanced stealth elements. I want more the challenges of a real thief. And if Thief IV has proper TDP spirit there will be the ability to BJ dogs. :p

Lol! That'd get the animal rights activists up in arms, "so what if you can actively murder and beat the crap out of people, how dare you harm a poor defenseless little dog!"

Jeepers Scoob !!
BESTIALITY in Thief 4 ???? :cheeky:
After he's blown the dog, I guess Garrett would have to swallow the dog jism - especially if you're playing Ghost Mode !! Else Citywatch would notice the splashes of dog sperm on the cobbles ! So maybe some sort of
MINI GAME to blow job dogs cleanly, quietly and humanely can be included too ??? :laff:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c262/Diah_/OBScreenShot84.jpgBeen there, done that. It was called Oblivion. There really wasn't very much that was Thieflike about that game (or Morrowind) imo. Though both games were lots of fun and very immersive, they just weren't Thief. But travel by horse took up a lot of time (unless you did the instant-transport thingy) and though it was fine for OB I don't think it would work in Thief. In spite of sometimes awesome scenery, I have to admit that at times I'd get rather bored just plodding along to the next town; wolves, demons, & other adversaries that tried to ambush me notwithstanding. Also; the first time I tried to steal a horse I ended up in prison.
I'd much rather stick to Garrett's current mode of transportation, thankyouverymuch.
Damn... but then they could release Horse 4rmor!

I think there was an Oblivion mod for horse armor, but I never bothered with it. By the time I played the Knights mod I was pretty much getting tired of it. Great scenery, tho! ;)
I just don't think ride-able horses fit in with Garrett's lifestyle. I wouldn't mind seeing the occasional horse hitched to a cart; might make it even more realistic.

Actually, a better comparison with Thi4f + 4orses would be Assassins Creed. I mean it was an interesting game, but too repetitive and too simple and I fear that map construction to allow Thi4f to accompany this idea would render it Creed style (which is, farther away from the series than I would enjoy). However, horses in game (albeit unrideable) would provide a greater sense of immersion.
