This is very not good.
I loaded up Fishkill; first, the camvator sequence rolled, but at the end, it didn't terminate. I had to Ctrl-Shft-Alt-End to move to the actual mission.
There, the curse works like it's supposed to do... but when I allowed my hit points to be whittled away to zero, Garrett didn't die. I even jumped off of a very high building to the ground, and nothing happened... I was still walking around.
I loaded up the Waterway Tunnel 2, jumped into the water, and there was no "bubble bar". I could stay underwater as long as I wanted. Then I let a zombie kill me, but again, I didn't die. All the hit points were gone, and I even heard the Garrett death scream... but I wasn't dead.
I even tried it with the T2 OM; same thing.
What on earth did T2X do to me?

Everything you described happened to me, too! :wot: I had to completely reinstall, finding no other alternative. :(

Same here, definately T2X related...
I un/reinstalled T2 and this mission finally works perfectly (and with no slow frame rates I might add)...
Might be some useful info for those that have not yet finished T2X...

I think I've solved the problem. At least, this worked for me!
Everybody who is unable to make the book work after you have (a) installed, then (b) uninstalled T2X -- check to see if uninstalling removed the file from your Thief2 directory called convict.osm.
I discovered my convict.osm file was missing; I copied it from my most recent backup, reloaded RUTITM via Darkloader, and just loaded a savegame from before I picked up the book... and lo and behold, now everything seems to be working properly.
It appears that in my case, the T2X uninstallation removed a critical file. I think convict.osm is what tells Thief when you've died, when your breath is about to run out underwater, and so forth. Evidently, there is also something in there used by the book sequence in this mission.

@Dafydd
*Sigh* Thank you, I remember this for the future. If only I had known this before, I would not have had to throw away everything and reinstall. :(

Just reading about the trouble T2X may have caused . . . :nono: kinda sad. :( I lost my entire T2 installation because something went haywire with it, I'm thinking I've seen enough of it. It's worth the trouble, though . . . I may just start a thread in the T2X forums recommending people create a new installation of T2 to dedicate to T2X. If T2X breaks, it won't take your primary T2 installation with it. I tried it, and it's much more convenient once everything is set up properly.

Please do that - people need to know. It's as simple as copying and then re-naming your Thief2 Install folder to something else (Like "Thief2 Original") before installing T2X. Once I'm done with T2X, I will delete the Thief2 directory that T2X installed into, and delete the word "Original" off my other directory, and be back to square one. I did this before when I was installing DromEd to play certain levels. Basically, you're tricking you computer into looking at a different folder.
As for this level, it was pure genius! I liked it so much, I went out and rented the first Evil Dead the night I played it just to remember old times!
My only comment, could've been a little scarier - more Deadites/Zombies attacking - but that's just me!

It's good to know I can just blame all the bugs and problems on T2X. :cheeky:

Don't forget to watch Dead by Dawn as well. :sly:

I decided to stick to the Evil Dead 2 movie plot. Not many deadites to kill there. :tsktsk:

I thought the Homage factor was outstanding! I was just speaking as a casual player - but I suppose if I had never seen the movie:
the mama zombie in the basement would have scared the poo out of me!
Anyway, I loved the attention to detail from the movie - great show!
Another Suggestion: If you ever revise it, you might include some of the Tree Monsters from T2, since they would fit in nicely with the Evil Dead 2 plot.
Overall, great work! Cooking up any other movie missions?

Look out the piano room window after getting the pages.
I had more of them in earlier versions, but they kept coming in through the doors, which should've been impossible for monsters their size.
