Hi everybody
I´m a new member of the forum. Even though I´ve been in here many times reading. I think I´ve played all the Thief 2 fan missions there is. Thanks to everyone of you for all the help you have given.
Way up there in the mountains is a great one! :thumb:
Had the same problem with low frame rate. However, right at the end after having stabbed the zombie in the basement and coming up to the livingroom I tried to fire of my 3 fire arrows. I could barely get the bow up becouse the frame rate dropped considerably, it even crashed back to desktop a couple of times. After I hade shot of all the firearrows my framerate problem was completly gone (int the blink of an eye). In my case it seemed all connected to the fire arrows. I even heared on two occasions in two different places, as I got the bow up to shoot a fire arrow, a sound outside the house somewhere like if a big rock was dropped into water. Strange! I don´t know if this helps anybody. Now I will go ahead and and install the updated scripts, which I persume will take care of the problem in a more correct way.

That's insane . . .
But it worked for me too. I tried letting all the fire arrows go, and I had the framerate improve a fair little bit too. I'll have to see if I can find an old beta version on my hard drive somewhere, just to see if it's been the same thing all along.
Neat find! :thumb:

(

The scripts are also linked from each mission that needs them (on thiefmissions.com, at least).

Hello, everybody!
I’m playing this wonderful fan mission by
Troutpack and I guess I’m having the same problems as many others - low frame rate. It’s killing me badly.
Here what I’ve vainly done trying to get the mission running smoother:
- Thief II is re-installed and re-patched to version 1.18;
- scripts by Gaylesaver are (
http://thiefmissions.com/scripts) downloaded and installed:
- darkhooks.dlx (November, 2, 2003);
- script.osm (November, 23, 2003).
- scripts by Telliamed are downloaded from the link above and installed:
- tnhScript.osm.
- Right Up There In The Mountains (bug fixed) is downloaded and installed from Cheap Missions a couple of days ago.
- also i use GarretLoader v. 1.02 to run fan missions.
That’s it. I hope I didn’t miss anything important.
I remember
Nightwalker wrote not a long time ago:

Reinstalling the scripts did the trick. I don't know if I had an older version installed on this computer or what but with the new ones installed, everything worked, all the loot was frobbable and I had no frame rate problems at all. Excellent!
What scripts did you use? Were they the same as the ones I downloaded and installed?
I completed the mission yesterday night. I collected all the loot on Dead (Expert) level. It really made me feel the happiest taffer in the world but that thing with low frame rate saddened almost everything `cos I liked I REALLY liked being Right Up There In The Mountains having a pleasant flashback to the first time I saw the movie. I don’t know how but Troutpack managed to recreate the gripping atmosphere Ash and his friends were in. (Sorry my English is bad and I can’t describe in words everything I want to say here). So, here you are, Troutpack, 9:thumb:. It’s exactly the same score I gave to your mission in GarretLoader poll section (or whatever the thing is called). Thank you very much!
You know what would be great if this mission would also have? The feeling something is chasing you in the woods. Just like in the movie. ;). And as soon as you get to the other side of the bridge realizing that your fate is doomed the chase stops to reveal the complete silence for a couple of moments disturbed by the crazy loud sound of your heartbeat and then the gust of wind arises the panic in your head to the insane limits making you run for you life anywhere from that cursed place, anywhere to catch the fading sight of the saving trail ahead. The chase goes on. But soon it stops again because Garrett finds a cabin hidden in the mountains. He rushes to the front door when suddenly the demonic voice speaks "JOIN US" making him feel that the trap is closed. And it’s up to him now which road to take and which death to choose. But knowing Garrett that he always cheats death he takes his chances hiding in the cabin inside rather then staying the eternal host to the demonic spirit of the forest roaming outside. The mission begins...
Yeah, and one more thing, while playing RUTITM (Right Up There...), I caught myself thinking that Garrett didn’t need to do the talking at all. Because it’s not thief-like mission, I mean, I didn’t feel like I was Garrett there. I felt like I was the lucky bastard happened to find himself alone in the Evil Dead movie and feel what Ash and others really felt that night. And I must say if that was true I’d lock myself in the bathroom trying to shit the hell out of me right until my end. Honestly, I was really scared and happy playing Troutpack`s FM. Thanks again, man!
P.S.
Brynolf, fire arrow do the tricks indeed. I wonder why?
P.P.S. If only I could stop the rocking chair in the living (ha-ha) room forever the problem with frame rate would be gone.
Sorry for the possible mistakes.

Yes, it was the "bug fix" scripts that I installed. You need to restart from the beginning of the mission, too, not use a save from before. That fixed it for me.

I`ve tried many ways including this, Nightwalker. But all was in vain.
Btw, how fast your machine is? What videocard do u have? What driver version do u use for it?
Nightwalker on 19/8/2005 at 01:22
I played it on an Athlon 64 3200+ with a Radeon 9800 videocard. It has the latest drivers installed, I think, though I'm not sure. I don't really think that makes a difference though because the framerate was awful for me the first time I played. Sorry the suggestions didn't work for you.

Yeah, me too. But it`s ok. Anyway, this mission is really great. And as soons as i have that Suzuki GSX-R1300 Hayabusa ;) you`ve got, things definitely will be looking good for me. I`m planning to upgrade my machine in the nearest future (it`s been 5 years already since my doing it last time). Then i hope i`ll get all the pleasures replaying RUTITM once again without any slowmotion effect.
Anyways, Nightwalker, thanx for help.

After getting all the objectives except "escape," I couldn't get past the
blind, deaf, and indestructible treebeasts
at the window, so I bashed the back door open. I discovered that the mountains are hollow

http://www.willadsenfamily.org/right-up-there.gifbut if you drop inside them, you can't get out again.
Since climbing didn't get me out, I read the note again and figured out what to do. That was an awesome special effect at the end there. The flying stove...that's what I call a "take-out order." :laff:
I just wish I had my "boom-stick." "Good, bad...I'm the guy with the gun."
