Probably just a footnote to the news to you guys in the south, but its Page 1 stuff u here. Jack Layton, leader of the opposition party in Canada died this morning.

While I have been a Conservative all my life, I don't doubt that Layton would have been a great PM, and after what he pulled off in this last election, my respect for him grew even more.
I wonder what's going to happen to the NDP now that he is gone. He didn't found the party or anything, but he has been the overwhelming face of it for years, and whomever is going to replace him has huge shoes to fill.
RIP Jack. I may me a Conservative, but I acknowledge that Harper is kind of an ass. I'm sad you weren't able to continue the wave of success you started, hopefully somebody will continue to strive making Canada great.

A very sad day for Canada, not just because we lost a compassionate human being, in a position of power but that Jack Layton's passing may herald a further fracturing of the left, the very thing we don't need at this juncture.
We can only hope that the party will coalesce around some new and optimistic leader and that the gang of rookies who rode Jack's coattails and the tide of anti Liberal emotion to the position of The Loyal Opposition, will have the wit, imagination and courage to hold the line against the Bush like, Steven Harper (shorthand for the convenience of our cousins south of the border).
But Jack was always the optimist and though I disagreed strongly with many of his policies I never doubted his sincerity or his humanity. Even in his (

Why do the good ones die young?
So long Jack. Thanks for all the fish.
