after 14 hours I am still not aligned to any faction, broke out of the city, made most of the "neutral" quests in the bandit camp and broke in/out of the monastery, hahahaha - sneaking truly works in this game and if you get spotted by a few use some distraction spell. pickpocketing gives you all the levitation/telekenises spells you need. mining/hunting nets you nice money. I explored most of the island (except the places where the enemies are just too strong in numbers and the "ueber"-caves), I have about 40 learning points unspent since I still have not decided what to do and managed with minimum armor protection, a normal machete, a short bow and 200 of stolen(!) arrows to down a small temple consisting of skeletons. the fight took 8 small health potions, 3 bowls of stew, 80 arrows and about 20 minutes of blocking, evading and swinging my sword like a crazy man. during the fight night broke out and the moon came out, it was so beautiful. phew, it felt like I accomplished something, puny little untrained human I am (not that the reward/loot was brainmelting but it was worth it ). I will NOT FALTER, I MUST get as far as possible without giving in to the stupid teasing of the factions. sofar I only got 2points in sword, 2points in pickpocket, mining, acrobatic and that's it. only spent 5points on strength so I could hold the next sword above the one you get in the tutorial. I AM LEGEND

Glad you're enjoying a game for once.

How do you kill skeletons with arrows?
mothra on 6/10/2009 at 08:22
shoot at the head
update (my pc crashed during typing, lol)....
mantle some ledges so they can't reach your toes. start off with an arrow to attract them. let them come....when they desperately hug the wall start shooting each of them in turn in the skull from above. most arrows will hit, if they do not they are easy to find later opposed to shooting them in a straight arc away from you into dense vegetation. after halving most of their health (or if they give up - what they sometimes do) it's time to acrobatically jump down and start slashing them in the back. then retreat and potion drinking: back up into narrow chokepoint so they cannot swarm you - block, evade - be patient.

You're countering one logical fallacy with another?
Edit: That was directed at Koki

I joined the monastery and hit chapter 2 around 16 hours in. Now I'm all about setting people/small animals on fire and hitting them with a very large stick while they nurse their 3rd degree wounds.
Right now I'm exploring the western shore of the island, trying my best to help out the slowly-going-crazy guy I ran across while wondering in the forest below the monastery. What I found out there has to be some of the most beautiful scenery I've seen in a game. It looks like an old town built on and into the edge of a sheer cliff. Over time, the cliff face has slid back into the ocean, leaving parts of buildings and halves of hallways open along the edge of a huge precipice with nothing but rocky crags and open water below. Course any mysterious place like this in an RPG is gonna be filled to the brim with skeletons (and War Crickets), who have been handing my ass to me while administering beatings about the face and neck. I'm having to eat about 10 tons of fried meat and leafy greens just to stay alive.

didn't you learn the alchemy skill yet ? leafy green are a valuable ingridient, I never ever eat vegetation raw or sell them, most of the time they increase their value tenfold in a potion.
btw:anyone gone the magician way (the one most appealing to me from a combat standpoint although I hate the stupid inquisitors)
I'd love to work for nobody and play RobinHood for the peasants, unfortunately I can't "gift" them any loot I take from the bandits/priests.
Renzatic on 6/10/2009 at 09:27
Yup. I've got 3 points in it. I always want to save my potions for those moments when I don't have enough time to stuff my face full of vegetation or am so desperately close to death it'll take too many raw ingredients to heal me back up to fighting strength. Plants and herbs are so abundant, you can afford to eat a few to top off your health and still have a goodly amount left for brewing potions later.

as you can see from my above description my fighting style is: cowardly peasant. sometimes I just flee until the animals give up, walk all the way back to a waterbarrel and stand there for minutes slowly healing myself. I'm a greedy bastard concerning my potions as well. but the skeleton fight was like taking on a Dragon with a toothpick so I thought, what the hell, gotta invest it all and it was glorious, barely making it out alive.

10 tons of fried meat
Theres quite a few (and quite a few potent) recipes around using raw meat, use those instead of chomping on lumps like a barbarian :b
PS glad hygiene isnt a factor in this game. "Hey why not cook my next meal in this kettle i found in a goblin cave" :p
