@The guy whining about lack of AA.
The game probably uses deferred rendering in this case, like Stalker's X-ray engine and Unreal Engine 3.0. Native in-game AA is just not possible when deferred rendering is used in DX9. If you can't force it from your GPU driver control panel then too bad.

I bought the damn thing today. Full price. I have neither a PC capable of running it, nor an Xbox 360. I want to support it, and I haven't bought jack shit new in the last 2 years from anyone. I was looking at AGP cards today, and 100 bucks will get me an AGP card capable of playing it decent enough. I also went ahead and ordered 2 gigs of RAM for my desktop (bringing me up to 3 total), so I'll be up to snuff soon enough.
I am the hugest Gothic fag. Needless to say.
The last game I upgraded more than one component for was Vampire: Bloodlines. I bought an extra 512MB RAM (doubling what I had)_and went from and FX 5200 nVidia card to an ati 9600 w/256 MB. BTW, that card lasted me all of 3 weeks. I quickly realized that the damn thing was barely an improvement and bought a 9800 PRO. Whew, those days were pricey.

Out of curiosity, what video card did you buy?

Theres quite a few (and quite a few potent) recipes around using raw meat, use those instead of chomping on lumps like a barbarian :b
I have a couple already, but they both require potatoes to complete the recipe. Since you can only get potatoes from that one farmer in town, and I'm almost always out and about exploring...well...fried meat for me, all the damn time.

PS glad hygiene isnt a factor in this game. "Hey why not cook my next meal in this kettle i found in a goblin cave" :p
Hey, it's better than eating old meat scrounged out of one of (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdKTa8kEqsk) those gnomes ratty backpacks. At least you get a freshly cooked meal, instead of something you found squirreled away between a dirty pickaxe and a few badly rolled joints.

But that's the thing, you can force AA from the graphics card control panel for these two games, deferred rendering or not. You can even have HDR and AA at the same time now, welcome two years ago.
Anyway besides the lack of AA the game seems to be pretty damn good and well optimized judging by the demo. So I guess it's just a detail and I shouldn't have made such a fuss over it. I also feel kinda bad after reading those retarded reviews the game is getting since it clearly deserves much better.

thanks, gotta turn down SSAO, it is certainly taxing on my HW. deleted the logos long ago, was pretty easy to find.
still haven't decided who to join. ATM I am through most of the side-quests (besides the ones involving the inquisition) and I'm starting to miss enough skills/spells to properly dispose of the big monsters and circumvent the big traps. so I think I'm gonna go for magician.

I've had a bit of a nightmare with PCs this year, and have ended up with a Dell that has a fantastic processor (Core i7), but a supposedly shit graphics card (nVidia 220), that can't be upgraded, as anything else pushes temperatures in the case too high.
But what I've found is that if I lower my resolutions, this little card performs brilliantly with everything. It's made me adjust my priorities. I suspect a lot of that has to do with this little card having 1GB of onboard memory.
I still think I'll pop the guts of the Dell into my nice Antec case at some point so I can use the 275 I've got lying around, but for the time being, if I limit myself to 720P gaming (still higher than a lot of console titles), I can turn most dials up. So I've been enjoying Risen with all the details, just at a lower resolution than my monitor's 1920x1200.
mothra on 7/10/2009 at 09:34
what surprised me most is how good Risen runs on my pc concerning the demanding settings/visuals. it's also one of the few games to utilize both cores (and even 3 cores if you have a quad) I (!) came across.
core2duo@3.0GHZ
win7-32bit
4 gb ram (with 3,5 utilized)
gefore 8800gts
runs on 1680x1050 with all on highest with 25-40fps. 25fps are barely noticable since this is no fighter/racing game. I think if I turn down SSAO I will be able to activate above mentioned drawdistance.
And I disagree with the article about the depth of field, yeah it's blurry and not "realistic" (lol) but I think it makes the game look very, very good, it's more of an art-thing than a realistic depitction of dof in real life.

Haven't yet, I was merely pricing them in stores. I will probably end up ordering one. Most likely a 512MB SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 3850
