I assumed so, but I only ever found scrolls for it, never the rune.

Risen is basically a remake of Gothic 2 with some good enhancements from Gothic 3 and a few minor new ideas.
I finished it. It's a rare thing to be playing a true PC game nowadays.

IIRC, the rune for the ashbeast spell is in the temple with all the lava...I think it's the one behind a waterfall. I found it just lying on a ledge

get/play that game. it's massive and it's very different from old samey-grindy dragon age. I had a blast doing all different "paths".

Finally bought the game and the computer to run it. And I think it's a great game, really has that Gothic 1 & 2 feeling to it.
Decided to go with the swordsman/smith/thief for the Don. Just finished the Harbor City and decided to explore the island a bit before continuing with my quests.
I really like the fact that thieving skills are useful now, not just for gaining a couple coins more.

Little tidbit: Ostriig and I recently had a lengthy chat with the (lead?) writer of Risen in a pub. He's also one of the primary writers of Deus Ex 3 (though not the "narrative designer)." How is Risen's script, anyway?

decent. multi-path, decision/faction-driven quests but no outstanding characters and characterization. women were handled especially bad. the island, its flora and fauna was the star of the show but everything else was by-the-book fantasy with no big deviations from known staples. the gameplay/exploration/levelling captivated me more than the story I must say. hmm, I loved RISEN but for DeusEx3 this won't cut it imo.

The English version of the dialogue is quite significantly different than the German version as the (several, the only one whose name stuck was Rihanna Pratchet) people doing the translation rewrote it basically from the ground up.
I've heard generally good things about the script, most seemed to think it better than the ones for the previous Gothics which were ~90% OK, 10% ¿Que? though that may have been partly due to the occasionally ludicrous voiceacting.

Ah, I guess he just did the translation work then (given that he's English). That's good to know.
