I was wondering why there wasn't a thread about Risen yet... perhaps it was a good thing. ;)
I, for one, am definitely looking forward to this. Gothic 1 and 2 were some of the best RPGs I've played and, while Gothic 3 was a disappointment, it was still fun (when I wasn't staring at the literally 2-minute loading screen).
Anything new from PB, especially if it's going back towards the style of the original two games, is something to look forward to in my book.

this thread is win. I don't see where the Gothic-hate comes from....buggy games ? NO WAY :cheeky:
the devs admitted part3 was a step in the wrong direction - respect. Let's hope they can get back their fans. I must say I stopped playin' gothic after part1, maybe risen is something for me. and beating bioware is not hard, bioware is beating themselves over the head all the time they release new stuff for MansonAge.

Risen, however, well.... It's from the Gothic 3 dudes. If that isn't scaring you, then you're either stupid or have bad taste.
Nah, JoWood have nothing to do with it.
And it's fairly well established that the reason G3 was released in its state was JoWood's fault. Forced PB to abandon the second G2 expansion they were working on while taking the time to build G3's engine properly, then tried to force them to release G3
six months earlier (!!! no seriously, imagine G3 with six months
less polish) which only didn't happen because PB self funded an additional six months, and have consistently shown that hey haven't learnt a fucking thing from the experience- see that Indian turdware G3: Forgotten Gods and the set in stone deadline they have given for whatever they're calling their Gothic IP squatting title nowadays.

As far as I know, they only acknowledge that the world was too big for them. As for the other flaws of Gothic 3 (which was still a good game in my opinion), like the dumbing down of the combat system, I'm not sure they really think it was a step in the wrong direction. I guess we'll see with Risen.

That's not what I heard. If I remember correctly, the game was already several months late (I don't remember if it was 6 or 9 months) when JoWooD said to PB it was enough and the game would be released as is. After that, JoWooD used the term of the contract to forced PB to work on patches on their own for another six months. PB was obviously not happy with this. Also, PB was more or less voluntarily delaying those patches because they were in negociation for Gothic 4 (and then completely stopped working on them when they couldn't get the contract they wanted).
(Of course, all I say should be taken with a grain of salt as I'm just repeating what I heard on the JoWooD forum.)
In my point of view, both JoWooD and PB are to blame, but I tend to be more on the side of JoWooD on this.

Nothing you wrote contradicts anything I wrote, they're both consistent. Yours simply deals with what happened after release rather than before.
I tend to believe, and be more sympathetic to, Piranha Bytes for the simple reason that I've enjoyed their games while JoWood's record with respect to publishing games which are either broken or buggy and then not fixing them is, frankly, appalling, and what PB accuses them of is absolutely consistent with their behaviour in other cases. Further, I loathe the practice of publishers IP squatting on things they had nothing to do with establishing- JoWood wasn't even G1's publisher- though fortunately once "Gothic 4" is gone PB gets the name back.

I show no sympathy for NoGood, but the mess that was G3 is mostly PB's fault. After all, the game was given extra months after extra months of development time, but PB still fucked up. OTOH, NoGood fucked up the expansion Forsaken Gods, so...
Arcania (Gothic 4) looks noice, but some latest preview of a German Printmag stated that it's still very uncomplete, and if they seriously aim for a Fall 2009 release, NoGood might just face another disaster.
Risen, well, demo or it didn't happen.

Really, you post nothing of value, all you do is troll.
I can't believe a decent fellow like Gunsmoke would've ever associated with a worthless example of humanity like you.
Hmm. I think I said something about Morgoth22 on gamefaqs, but I don't recall any links to this morgoth.
Risen has me anxious. I am a huge Gothic 1/2/NotR fanboy, and am praying to the heavens PB gets back to their roots. They make carefully crafted worlds and they are extremely believable (especially considering the year they were made).

I really like Gothic 3 until I get to Nordmar. Nordmar isn't the the lush, beautiful, living, and believable world that Myrtana is.
