i just got (
http://www.eidos.co.uk/gss/roguetrooper/) rogue trooper up and running the other day and i've been playing through it. this is a great game so far. it's not quite what you would call "cerebral" a la thief or system shock (it's a console game at heart) but it's certainly engaging, and not overly frustrating. there's plenty of things you can do and quite a few ways of doing them, and once you get used to the controls (which doesn't take long at all) it all feels very natural. the soundtrack, while tending to follow a common melody, is pretty good too. i'd recommend it if you're looking for some good old blasting fun.
i'll have to get my hands on the comics.

Heh, I house-shared with a guy who worked on this.
How much do the chips talk to Friday? Gunnar was the only one of consequence, if I remember but they all quite distinct personalities, Helm and Bagman were the other two I think. I remember a bit about the comics, as I used to read them way back in the day and it'd be sad if they lost that, as it was a pretty integral part of the comics.

I was thinking of posting about this when it came out, so I'm glad dethtoll reminded me!
I quite like it. It's not the most brilliant game in the world, but it's good for a quick blast every now and then. So far, the interaction between the chips and Rogue has been pretty good (Gunnar is the most talkative in-game, though Helm also pipes up quite often and they all get cut-scene time). Playing through the Quartz Zone Massacre was sweet, and the deaths of the GIs that would become the chips were (mostly) as per the comics, except maybe for Helm.
I can remember but didn't get playing the side-scrolling Rogue Trooper game Krisalis made, so I was looking forward to this one. I wonder, though, if it made any real impact outside the UK? I presume that Rogue is nowhere near as well known as Judge Dredd away from these shores.

Shoulda had a Bruce Willis Rogue Trooper movie and Arnold Schwarzenegger Slain movie to raise awareness, I say.

Is this a first- or third-person perspective? I was checking it out at EB a few days ago, the price was right and the few comics I've read seemed pretty cool, but the box was almost completely uninformative and it was the first time I'd ever even heard of the title. I have a real dislike for third-person (Armed and Dangerous notwithstanding) so I didn't pick it up until I could find out. (At which point I completely forgot to find out.)

Anyone else remember (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogue_Trooper_%28board_game%29) This board game? I remember playing it a long time ago, worked quite well. When one of the players died, they could be picked up by another one as a chip.
This game looks like it could be quite fun, bet my computer doesn't meet the specs though (which I couldn't find on the badly designed flash website).

I'm afraid it's third-person with a first-person sniper mode, a la MDK or NARC.

i can't get enough of gunnar, helm, and bagman. they are quite talkative, but it never gets old. and if it does, you can always set it to "essential commentary only". but that's no fun, 'cuz then you wouldn't hear gunnar say, "a silencer? you want me to shut up?" :)

I love the way he sounds really hurt when you do that. :) "Wh - what are you trying to say, Rogue?!"

Okay, sounds like my mate and the team at Rebellion might have actually worked some magic with this one. I'll be checking it out soon.
After I finish Blood Money.
