In spite of myself, I enjoyed that review. Game looks fucking horrible.
This.

Personally I cannot wait for AvP3. Imagine playing as a Predator, ripping an Alien's spine out only to have Mickey Rourke mutter: "yeah, bring the noise, you xenomorph motherfuckers!"

Bethesda are apparently publishing Rebellion newest game, Rogue Warrior. It's due out in 2-3 days according to Steam, yet there's been zero press coverage nor media material (ie trailers, screenshots) since like the last E3.
I have been seeing commercials for this on G4 and Cartoon Network's [Adult-Swim] overnight block for several days.

Rogue Warrior is buggy in ways it's hard to even imagine until you see them in the game. The ragdolls, for instance, will often flail and bounce around like crazy when shot, but when you shoot a guy in a staircase his body might still end up lying flat on invisible ground, like bodies in staircases would do in the olden pre-ragdoll-physics-days. Another thing is the falling snow particles, which, for some reason move with twice the speed that you do in the same direction you're going. Let me clarify: when you're standing still the snow falls downward, but if you start walking forward the snow will also start falling in the direction you're walking, at twice the speed you're moving. It's hard to explain in words. Like I said: you need to see some of this shit to truly comprehend just how buggy it is.
The game is linear as hell, the only doors you can open are the ones you're
meant to go through. The story is some cold war mumbo jumbo. The aiming, at least with a gamepad, is very difficult. The quick-kill button is sometimes unresponsive. It's less than 4 hours long. The game looks a decade too old but still stutters occasionally on a X-Box 360.
When you look at everything that's wrong with the game it's easy to miss the fact that the core gameplay is actually quite good. The guns feel satisfying to shoot and the AI is good. By "good" I don't neccessarily mean "smart". But rather they behave in a way that makes them fun to fight. The stealth is very enjoyable and quite forgiving: just because you get into a shootout in one area doesn't mean that the guys in the next area you get to will be alerted. The music is very groovy, and of course Mickey Rourke's voicework elevates the protagonist to something more fun than the usual nameless actionhero. Overall the sound-design is perhaps this games strongerst suit.
Actually, arguably the best thing about this game comes at the very end: the end credits which treat you to a (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsusJVaAWf8) funky Mickey Rourke spoken-word track. Haha if only the rest of the development team had approached the project with the same glee and wink in their eye as the sound-guys this might've been a real Duke Nukem contender.
Overall score: 4/10
Bottomline: a shitload of bugs and imprecise controls keeps the gameplay back. Still it was well worth the 6,50 I paid for it.

Y'know, looking around at all these old threads getting resurrected and stuff -- I post quite a lot, huh.

I read a few of Mr. Marcinko's books back in the day and so I gave this a try. I don't remember if I finished it or not, which is an indicator of how memorable it was. It wasn't bad. Not great, but not bad.
