i just played through it again, and almost everything worked properly. this time i went through the warehouse to get to the mansion as directed by the obectives, and the elevator worked as did the cutscene. another interesting difference: the first time i played i didn't get the guards who appear and turn on the lights when you open the gate and enter the orb area. that was a cool touch, and made the area much more challenging. i don't know squat about dromed, but i'm guessing i missed the triggers on all counts by approaching the mission differently. also on my first time through, the mission ended when i left the manor through the front door. this time i couldn't end it at all. weird.
spamlet - where did you stack the crates and barrels? i got to the roof and tried to shoot a rope arrow above the bell, but missed and lost it forever. it looked too high to reach anyway, so did you lug all that crap up there to stand on?
i think i only found one secret - the two chests behind the mini cave-in. what are the others? thanks.

I can't get into the warehouse. I am up on the roof by the trap door (I assume this is supposed to be the way in) but my jumps always come up just short and then I slide back. Am I just spastic or have I missed something somewhere??
Nightwalker on 9/2/2002 at 23:39
I'm not sure what trap door you mean, but the easiest way in is to go through the side gate, around the back and climb in by some barrels in an open shed. You can get into the house itself by climbing in an attic window, but that bypasses some of the game, so you miss some fun stuff. :)

Nightwalker, I know the spot you mean, there is sort of a conveyor belt with the barrels on it, right? I tried jumping up onto the belt and/or crawling in a few dozen times without success, but I will try that again. I guess my spasticity is the answer after all. :(
Thanks for your help.
But FWIW, about this other possible entrance: on the roof of the warehouse, almost directly above the front door, is a skylight which can be opened. Surely some diligent roofwalker must have spotted this....
Nightwalker on 10/2/2002 at 20:59
Very cool! I never noticed that before. You can get in through that skylight, but it's difficult to get up on top of that part of the roof. I did manage it, though, after a few tries. :)

I've just (kind of - and I'll talk about that later) finished this level.
I've spotted the trap door you're talking about, But opened it from the inside, as it just lead onto the roof I haven't paid much attention to how I opened it.
Nightwalker is right about the way in, simply walk and then crouch, don't jump onto it, or it doesn't work.
Now - the kind of finished.
I was playing on Normal, and completed all the mansion and earlier objectives. Went back to the main town and the "get back to the village" objective wouldn't complete. I went everywhere in the town. I tried to frob the hammer temple inner door (it doesn't work despite some nice architecture visible through the window). I went to the top of the hotel. I went to the door marked on the map as way to main village (which is on the edge of the map so no going through there), I even bought a rope arrow, jumped on the edge of the wall and tried to jump out of the map - no ticking off of objective.
Is this a standard objective problem, an uncommon bug in the mission or can someone tell me exactly where to go to finish the mission?
I know in my heart that I've finished it but I like to see the mission complete screen.

I had a save where I was almost done (I didn't remember any problems before, but I haven't played it in quite awhile), so I finished it up and went out to the streets. It wouldn't end for a long time. I walked all over the streets, went back to the room where you start, etc. Then walked back towards the manor. Just as I got to the part of that street where it splits in a "Y" to go around the manor, the mission ended, for some unknown reason. Try heading back there to see if it works for you too.
As another interesting side note, the save I had was one of the ones where the field around the eye won't shut off. I've never been able to pick it up without getting killed, like some people, so, just as an experiment, I went and loaded up a save from just before I entered the area behind the gates up there, put out the fire in the furnace, then went back upstairs and the field had gone off properly. Maybe that's the trick. That it has to be extinguished before you get to that part? I'll have to try it again next time I play this one to see if it works or if it was just a fluke.

I hadn't realised that
you had to put out the fire to release the eye
until I got to the eye itself. At that point I was all out of
water arrows
. Left the mansion, went to the shop, bought some more, and returned. I re-entered via the garden and left that way once I had the eye.
That might be why nothing triggered. I'll try what you suggested to see if it triggers in the same place.
BTW very cool to be able to go into minus money buying equipment, so long as you have goods and gems to the value you want to spend.
I also found
the guy that kept coming out and relighting torches
hilarious.

:weird:
Reloaded my last save and went on a quick sprint down to the "y" and the mission ended!!
Nightwalker, as always your knowledge astounds me:thumb:

I'm glad you were able to finish, Taliesin. There was no knowledge involved that time, just sheer blind luck! :D
