There's a stethescope for sale in there as well, joanie. It's hung on the wall somewhere, I think. This is actually a fairly difficult FM to get through in some spots and not being able to put out the torches and have them stay out makes it even more difficult. It's fun though! :)

OK taffers,
I know that this FM is old - I'm a latecomer to thieving. Just finished this cool FM on expert and after looking through all the threads on this misson that I could find, I had some other issues that I was hoping some of you could answer:
1. I never got 'Brian' the torch re-lighter to activate. Who is Brian? In my game there is a guard room with 3 guards in it, all facing the same direction. Theres a fire arrow to be found in this room as well, and there is a sleeping 'servant' AI, who I can hit with my BJ, but can't KO. Outside this room in the hallway is a thief/assassin AI guy who is 'invisible' - I see him - but he never moves or does anything and swinging the BJ at him is like swiping at air. Both of these guys sat there and did jack for my entire mission. Which of these is Brian?
2.
Is the switch in front of the statue in the wizardry room the key to staying grounded when hosing the gravity room device?
Is that all it does?
3. I never found a use for the "cone" room - beyond the portcullis, to the left, opposite from the barrel room. Whats the purpose of this room?
4. After making it through the caves, I was able to open the secret cellar door by using the hotel key on the frobbable door itself. Reloading showed me that any key worked, but frobbing the door did not. However, after reading the forums, there was supposed to be a frobbable torch to open this door. There was/is no frobbable torch in my game. Also, the door never closed behind me, even though I later read it was supposed to. Is this a bug? Or was the FM later changed?
5. Leaving the cellar, just beyond the secret door, there is slight angle-turn towards the left in the hallway. At the bend, there is a torch on the left side. Walking up against the wall opposite the torch, close to where the bend occurs and the 2 walls meet, causes Garrett to flip-out and start bouncing up and down. Once while doing this I took some serious damage. Why is this? Another bug? The type of shaking it was doing, I thought it might be related to the gravity room being on the fritz, but I can't remember if that room had been 'done' yet at the time this occured.
6. What's the reason for the poison? With the poison in my inventory, buying healing potions from the store caused them to 'arrive' as more poison! In a rush to heal before breaking into the chapel, I died from drinking my newly bought poison vials too quickly. I had to reload and drop the poison on the floor and buy the good stuff again.
7. I restarted the mission once b4 I beat it. The first time, I did not buy the stethospcope. I went past the safe and into the caves, picking up loot along the way until I reached the secret area of the caves (with the dead guy, 2 chests, and falling boulders). I turned around and went back to town to get the stethoscope for the safe (at the time not knowing what was in it). My loot said I had 600 total, but when I attempted to purchase the scope, it said I did not have enough $$ to buy it. Was this a bug? In any case, this is what made me restart and buy the scope 1st thing.
8. Is it possible to get into the building directly across from where you start? The one with the frosted, blue, crystal-looking window upstairs? How?
Thats it. Sorry this post is so long winded. These are just questions I could not find answers to from reading the threads. I greatly enjoyed this FM despite the bugs/misunderstood features.
I especailly like the flavor of using the deer leg to humiliate or prove a point. I would like to play more missions with that kind of element. Any recommendations? Something like the cheese bandit strikes again, where whenever you loot a prominent item, you must replace it with a wedge of cheese! What a calling card, lol!
Thanks again for another fun FM ^_^

There is something very wrong with your Rogue's Honor mission. None of the things you describe as strange should be happening. Do you have TDP or TGold? If you have TDP, you should have convict.osm installed. That might fix some of it. If not, I'd suggest deleting the mission and redownloading a new copy to see if that helps.
1. Brian is a gentleman who runs around relighting any torches you put out. By the end of the mission, I generally get VERY sick of him! :)
2. It's been too long since I've played this one and I'm not sure exactly which switch you mean. I don't think there's any "trick" to stay grounded. You just have to be fast and get out before you get sucked up to the ceiling.
3. I never found any use for the cone shaped gadget. I don't know what, if anything, it's for.
4. Again, I've never heard of this. The torch is there when I play it. Something is very wrong with your version of the mission.
5. Can't help. I've never experienced this.
6. I've never bought the poison, so again I can't help.
7. You probably can only spend the gold portion of your loot total. Perhaps that's what was throwing you off? I know it's that way in the Calendra's Cistern store, anyway.
8. Don't think so, though I'm not sure.
Don't apologize for being interested in FMs, whether they're old ones or new. We're always glad to see new people discovering and enjoying them! :) Questions, comments, etc. are always welcome.

Nightwalker to the rescue!
Thank you for your quick reply as usual! This is the second time I've downloaded a screwy mission that I had to delete and acquire somewhere else. fyi - I do have convict.osm installed. Hmm, any recommendations on the best place to dl FM's - in their best, most recent, bug-free versions?
Thanks again :thumb:

I suspect the problems are coming during the download, not from the original file. As far as I know, all the main places that have missions available for download are good but the best is (
http://thiefmissions.com/) thiefmissions.com Epithumia keeps it up to date and has pretty much every fan mission ever made, as well as scripts, patches, etc.

Greets!
Okay... I've got the stethescope. I wander up to the safe, poke it with the stethescope, hear "Now we're getting somewhere!"... and can't turn the dial while I'm holding the stethescope. :P
Any suggestions? Am I using it wrong?

Once Garrett has made his comment about "getting somewhere", you can put the stethescope away. Then you start clicking on the lightning bolt shaped symbols to the left to move the dials. If you move one of them too many times in a row, the dials reset, so alternate between them until they all have clicked into place. :)

I got annoyed at Brian the Torcher... so I decided to use his own obsession against him. I plopped a gas mine right out front his door; then I put out a torch, sat back, and watched the show.
Good night, sweet putz.... :thumb:
I am having trouble finding the Orb, however; it's the only thing left on my to-do list. Where is it? (Everybody in the FM that I have seen is unconscious except the three guards who patrol outside the warehouse and the shopkeeper; so unless the Orb is in a whole new section of mission, I should be able to get there without too much trouble. Well, maybe.)
Edit: Oops, nevermind. I did find it... it's that Eye thingie that I can't get because of the force field that fails to shut off when I put out the fire.
Oh well, I guess I'll just exit the manor, take out the last three guards I know about, and Ctrl-Alt-Shft-End it all.
Edit 2: All right, I found out how to get the Orb, even with the force field in place. If you belly right up to the table, stand, and lean forward, then you can get the Orb to frob. If you snatch it quick while it's lit, you won't even burn your hand.
However, now I have a new problem: I can't figure out how to end the mission!
I've accomplished all the objectives except "Leave the manor area" and "Don't kill anyone" (I haven't killed anyone, of course). But I can't figure out how to leave the manor area. I left the manor; I went into my room; I went to the door that the map says leads to "the rest of the village," but nothing suffices. I even lugged a barrel from the warehouse up to the wall (leading to the rest of the village), jumped atop, and tried to mantle onto the wall; but I kept hitting the edge of the universe, and it wouldn't let me aboard.
Also, a very weird bug: I went through the mines, got into the manor, did some looting, then returned backwards through the mines to pick up any loot I missed before. But on my return trip, all the lantern-guards had vanished -- leaving their lanterns behind, floating immobile in the air!
Also, my current stats show that I have 1900 out of a possible 1775 loot (the loot remaining adjusts to take your purchases into account, so that's not the explanation). And although I have knocked out everyone except the storekeeper and one of the two mushroom-heads in the manor (the girl, lying on the couch, seems just out of reach of my blackjack, which always hits the couch instead of her), the stats show there are 20 remaining persons it's possible to blackjack!
Finally, I missed a secret -- can anyone remember all of them? There is:
1) The chest in the mines past the "Danger" sign, near the rockfall and the dead guy;
2) The safe in the warehouse;
3) One other I think I got, but I can't remember.
Thanks,
Dafydd

Howdy! After I made it through the caves, into the manor and sat through the cut scene, Thief no longer allows me to look up or down with the keyboard (I have them mapped to PgUp and PgDn respectively on the number pad). Running fully patched on Thief Gold, latest Darkloader.
Is it because this is a Thief I level? I also have the latest in the Gaylesaver scripts from playing the latest contest FMs.
It's not a game killer, just annoying because I have to keep switching to my mouse to look up or down. The number pad Del key still restores to looking straight ahead, oddly enough.
I'm adoring this mission - I had no idea there was such sophisticated FMs in Thief I!
Cheers!

I've been playing "Rogue's Honour," and I'm right at the end--the only thing I have left to do is switch the deer leg for the Orb in Theron's manor. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to get it without killing myself, since it's protected by an energy field like the talismans of Earth and Air are in the Hammer temple in Thief 1.
There's a weird (but kinda nifty) cutscene that has Garrett listening outside the bar door to an exchange between the bartender, Kalten the lazy guard who likes to drink a lot, and Kalten's superiour. In that scene, after his superiour reprimands him and the bartender says that it looks like he's in trouble, Kalten says:
"He can't touch me. I know too much stuff. Like how to get the Orb--trick is not to stand on the heat."
At least, that's what I *think* he says (he has a lovely accent, but I'm not entirely sure I heard the last part of the sentence right).
Now, I know that the Orb
sits on a heated pedestal with a hot boiler underneath it in the grate and with a fire heating it from the floor below
but I don't know how exactly to maneuver to follow Kalten's "advice," since it seems that anywhere close enough to reach the Orb also happens to be within range of the affore-mentioned situation. I did
put out the fire underneath the boiler with a water arrow
but that didn't seem to change anything, and every time I try to grab the Orb, in any way I try, I get injured and eventually die. So I'm at a loss as to how to get the Orb and end the mission.
Any help anyone can give would be quite appreciated. Oh, and by the way,
the tremor and explosion effects in the gravity room when you cut the feedback loop to get the Golden Egg were really really cool, and something I've never seen done in a fan mission before.
:-)
