You've hit a bug.
I found out that you need to put out the fire in the boiler BEFORE you enter the section of the house where you find the Orb. Otherwise, the field stays on, even if you go put the fire out. Some people can manage to get it with the field on but I've never been able to. If you have a save before you entered that section, you should be able to start over from there and just put out the fire first.
:)

Ah--that explains it. Thanks. :-) And as I recall, you've helped me out several times when I've been stuck, so thanks for all those too.
I had noticed that even after I put out the fire under the boiler, I still heard crackling as if it were still there, but I assumed that was because there was actually a fire *inside* the boiler apparatus that you simply couldn't put out, leaving you with the puzzle of how to "not stand on the heat" even though you couldn't simply *remove* the heat.
A bug makes sense now. And lucky, I do have a save from right before I entered the porticullis area, so hopefully that'll do it. I have some earlier saves, too, which will do if necessary, though I hate to have to go back that far. But at least I won't keep banging my head against this problem, thinking it was just me being thick and not getting it. I would have just kept at it till I got frustrated, gave up, and loaded a new FM, so thanks for saving me (and the FM) from that fate. :-)

You're very welcome! :)

Replaying this and can see why I didn't finish it. It's really an enjoyable mission but frustrating!!!
I cannot get the egg (I guess that's what it is in a room in the orb/scepter area). The force field is off and I can actually get inside the water-filled container where the thing is now resting on the bottom, but I cannot pick it up.
Also, cannot figure out how to open the secret door in the basement.
When I started this mission, I went in through the upstairs window in the front of the mansion and the objectives for the warehouse and caves were automatically crossed off. Is this why I cannot get the elevator in the warehouse to open? As I recall, that elevator takes you down to the cave area. When I press the button, the elevator makes sounds that it is moving up to the floor, but the door won't open. Or am I missing a secret button somewhere?

I think you can only get into the caves, etc. if you enter through the warehouse. I believe if you go in through the house, that you can't go into that area.
To get the egg
you need to turn off the forcefield, open the panel below the switch and cut the wires. Then flip the switch back on again and (I think) turn it off quickly again. (My computer had a major meltdown so I can't go into the mission and check any of this. I hope it's all right.) There should be a big explosion, the water container will break and the egg will roll out onto the floor. At the same time, the gravity in the room will go weird so make sure you save before you do this, as it can be hard to get the egg and get out the door without getting sucked up into a corner and stuck there.
Thanks, Nw. I was wondering why
that panel was there to open
. Now, just one last thing and I'm out of here. How does the secret door in the basement open?
Nightwalker on 6/1/2005 at 19:02
I don't think you can open that from the house side though I'm not sure.

Hi Taffers! :D
I'm playing Rogues Honour right now, and I have a question about it. I know it's an old one, but I haven't found an answer to my question yet.
1. In the shop in Oma's emporium you can buy a potion called "Night Potion". What is that for? It hope it's useful, because it's quiet expensive...
Thanks for any answers :)

I don't know the answer to your question, but I just thought I'd bump your thread up because it's almost off the page, and no one has answered you since you first posted on Jan 31st. I hope that helps. I'll bet Nightwalker or some other "superplayer" like that knows the answer....

You get nightvison for a minute or so, screen goes green.
Not very usefull if you use high gamma.
