Btw, I think it's very funny that the rope arrow in the intro movie only pricks the wood beam very slightly; at that rate, it's a wonder the arrow doesn't pull out from its own weight... :p

That's exactly our point. The artist could easily have shown the arrow sinking deeper in. Instead, the artist went to pains to show only the very tip go in, a tuft of splinters, and the arrow wiggling back and forth at the tip before becoming completey rigid while the rope was deployed. The fact that this is the second game is another clue that something else is going on in that medieval fantasy world than today's real world science can explain.

...and even drops of green brandy can fall out of a bottle that has just been put onto the table. Well, I just don't think we should turn such a inanity into magic. After all you can see the wood being split to the left and right...oh, that's also quite unusual. :erg:

Drops falling off the lip of the bottle. Didn't know that bit caused any head-scratching before.
We've considered asking for a thread-split.

Do you really think that there was a purpose to showing that only a fraction of the arrow head actually pierces the surface? While having all these other magical arrows might explain the rope arrow, I always thought that scene was either an oversight or plain mistake, that whoever made it just didn't realize that.
But if the rope arrow was magical, it would explain why only a portion of the arrow head has to affix to a surface.
Another reason why I prefer the vine arrow. The way that arrow is affixed - with this vine-cocoon grappling to the surface- looks more "natural".

Do you really think that if something looks like a mistake, it must be? Erring on the side of caution, are we?
Again, Thief Universe vs. Real Life. How it's been presented vs. how we know better.
Not only does it wiggle, the last wiggle is upwards, against "gravity".:cheeky:

Try to fill a glass from a full bottle of vine and then try to put the bottle on the table in a way that looks like how it was done in the clip (so no excessive shaking around and stuff) and THEN try to get some drops of vine on the table.
That is about as inaccurate as the rope arrow thing. It is meant to show what happens, maybe with a little symbolic touch (the plants growing out of the brandy), but turns out to be a little unexact. Otherwise there is no evidence that rope arrows were meant to be magical. Their description isn't, the artworks aren't, and there would have been
clear magical elements in the TMA intro if they were supposed to be. Making every little mistake into some plausible thing for the game sounds a little ridiculous to me, although I like the practise of canonizing (almost) everything.

I really don't give a damn that any of you find me ridiculous. I do give a damn that some of you feel compelled to correct what you misperceive as delusion among some of us. I do give a damn that some of you bring the mood of a thread down, and people who were enjoying the discussions stop posting. Participate in the escapist fun, or please don't post. Start your own forum, or maybe a thread in CommChat to discuss the ridiculousness of TTLG members' escapist hobbies.

And you think saying
"It's magic. Dixi." is not bringing down the mood of those who are arguing for natural explanations? You can do this and I can try to avoid replying contrarily, although this should somehow be the purpose of this thread, but then I am the one that stops posting.

I have a serious problem with the scientificating (heh, sorry) every damned thing about a fantasy story.
But I didn't stop posting. ;)
PS: I did not call you ridiculous either, you're making too many useful things for that; it was just my version of a "damn thing".
