Ruins of Originia FM1: Mines of Margroth (Oct. 27/2002) support - by YcatX

For those that have begun "Ashes to Ashes:" Does your existing equipment and ammo supplies continue to rollover into "AtA?" I have just begun "Fire & Ice" and was wondering if I can go all out because I'm playing on Expert and have that burrick extermination project to complete.
Perhaps the answer is somewhere in the numerous Ruins of Originia posts; I've searched but haven't found it yet.

The ammo and loot only carries over from FM1 to FM2 and FM2 to FM3... Only the loot goes to FM4 where you can resupply are leaving Margroth...
Good luck...

(It's labelled as 'tank'. It's actually possible to translate the inscriptions although they're fairly blurry.)FYI: The font I used was Klingon...
I couldn't show all the map pages due to a cealing of 10 pages max (Page 11 is just a copy of page 10, or is it page 9 and 10.. Hmmmm)

Good luck...Cool, thanks YcatX! I've got 57 fire arrows, 42 broadheads, 36 water arrows, 11 flash bombs, 9 mines, 7 frog-beast eggs, and 3 invisibility potions to use up. Too bad the coal crystals and explosive devices don't carry over. I'm betting that my 12 gas arrows will be useful only as fire extinguishers though!
By the way, has anyone put together a definitive bestiary of the custom creatures in the series? I'm not sure what most of the creatures are named much less what they're vulnerable to and with whom they are and aren't allied. I was surprised in "The Mines of Margroth" to find that one of the gray-colored humanoid whatsits apparently attacked and killed two craymen and the bugbeast before dying itself while I was busy button hunting in another section of the area.

A climbable tree will grow, but don't climb it yet. Stand under the holes in the ceiling, and fire rope arrows into
the centre of the gas clouds. When you have rope dangling from all four, ascend the tree and jump off to the sides. You should find two chests (600 - Total 10131).
I shot fifty rope arrows up there and I haven't been able to get one to stick and drop a rope. I've aimed for the center and all over the place. You'd think one would have hit by accident. I did see the much smaller hole from the upper level and I got a rope arrow stuck in the edge of this upper hole, but it didn't drop a rope. Is there some trick to this like where you stand or something?
I'm playing on easy. Is it really possible to stick the arrows into the
center of the smoke holes in the ceiling?
I spent a lot of time looking for that gem at the well that never appeared only to find out that it only appears on expert.
YcatX on 18/1/2003 at 05:03
Yep... I can hit it on about 3 trys..Place yourself Directly UNDER in the center cloud (where the crystal is) and AIM Directly UP...
Yea.. that extra loot is a toughie...

Stuck in a new spot now. I've pushed the various buttons. The door has opened,
Quote:
"The air currents will suck you up into the antechamber of the throne room."
I climbed up onto the wooden platforms and frobed the metal grate with a key, but when the grate went up, i stayed on my little wooden platform. I'm not getting sucked up. I'm pretty sure I've pushed all the necessary buttons, but is there one button which turns on the suction?
New problem. I'm in the throne room. Used about seven rope arrows. Not enough health or air to swim through the icy tunnels. I lose health steadily and I'm at less than half to start. I found the one air pocket, but I'm soon dead anyway and I have no health or anything to eat. There is no cheat that I know of, so the only thing I can think to do is go way back to the aquarium and try to rustle up some fish. Is there another way to get to Bantar and his amulet?
Yametha on 19/1/2003 at 03:35
It's because you used a key on the grate. That functions as both a translating door and a button. If you try a wrong key on an unlocked door, it's equivilent to frobbing it. But If you try the same with a button, nothing happens. You need to frob it normally for it to work properly.
As for problem 2, don't touch the walls. They're margrothian crystal, and they burn you.
The inscrutable po on 19/1/2003 at 04:47
Ah. Okay. Now I go up fine and I've since survived the water. That was awesome in a really painful, suffocating sort of way. Hadn't noticed it was just the walls doing that. Thanks. Now I don't have to start from scratch.
(Frob means right click. Been awhile since I've played.)

Bug? I never new that....
