Are you playing the Thief 1 version? I believe that is just a beta, so bugs like that are likely to be in it.
Cold0ne on 23/4/2010 at 12:23
Im playing the 4 level mission pack ruins of originia.
I went down there to where it says the tank of the deep ones, but there is nothing there except a map. and this map I dont even know what place its showing. I am completely stuck now, I have discovered everything as far as I know, and totally stumped where to go next. Im sure it has to do something with the tricks area and those 2 faces painted on the wall in the "showers" area (I call it showers because of the tiles on the walls like in a public shower/changing room). Anyway I looked for walkthroughs online but every single link i find is dead including the one mentioned near the start of this thread.
Can someone provide the walkthrough on a working link? I hope someone still has it archived.

Judging from her post above, Nightwalker probably still has it, and so have I.
I don't have too much spare time at the moment, so it is unlikely that I can put it on the internet during the next few days (I have to find a suitable upload site first), but I will try to remember that.
Anyway... You said you arrived at the tank, if I got you right. That was a fishtank, if I remember it correctly. There's a lot of loot around the tank, but once you're done with all that gold and gems, you're supposed to go through a secret door somewhere near the area where you found the map.
This door should be located on a wall in a room with shallow water covering the ground. The walls are made of masonry, with red and white horizontal stripes. It is possible that this is the "shower room" you mentioned; whether these are stones or tiles covering the walls, I really cannot tell.
If you throw the Gem of Oldorf onto the ground in this room, the gem's light should show you a secret door in a corner; a square part of the wall appears a lot darker than the surrounding walls. To the right of this square there's a corner, and on the wall to the right of the door, inside the upper red stripe and close to the corner, there should be some kind of hidden button. It should open the door for you.
Behind the door there are some corridors, some enemies, and more loot. And if I correctly understand the walkthrough, then there should be some rooms, connected by corridors, where six buttons are located. These rooms are to the southeast of the tank area, I think.
Five of the six buttons must be pushed to open a way to Bantar, but one of the buttons should not be pressed. I think it triggers an arrow trap, but I'm not sure.
Two of these six buttons can be found in a narrow corridor very close to each other. At least one of these two buttons is located in a hole in the wall, and you will likely notice this hole when you enter the corridor.
the second button might be in another hole on the opposite wall, or maybe it's in a hole in the ceiling - i don't remember it and the walkthrough isn't specific on that one. anyway, i believe you can find these two buttons now. before using them, you should save your game, since my memory on the following section is not too good.
The important thing about these two buttons is that one of these has to be pressed, while the second one should not be pressed. I think the one which should be pressed is located in a hole on the north wall, while the other one is somewhere near the south wall. Stay away from the southern button, and shoot the other one with an arrow.
To the west of this area, there is a room with two more buttons. One is located on the west wall, the other one is in a hole in the ceiling. Press both buttons; use an arrow if necessary.
Head east again, past the two buttons in the corridor. There's a room to the southeast, but ignore it for the moment and go northeast. The corridor will branch, one part going north, the second one going east. Go east again, and you should reach two more rooms, each one containig a button. Both buttons are in a hole in the ceiling again, and both buttons have to be pressed. I hope you still have some arrows left.
When you have pressed those five buttons, and ignored the sixth, the way to Bantar should have opened. I believe it's in the room which I told you to ignore, but now it's time to go into this room again. I think it's a good idea to save your game before you enter the room; for example, there might be some enemies at your destination.
Anyway, there should be some wooden platforms in that room and a metal grating near the top. Climb the platforms to reach the grating, then frob it to continue. There should be a slowfall potion there somewhere; grab it, you'll need it later on to leave this area.
You will have to do a few things up there, but I think these are not hard to guess, so I'll not speak of that. Let me just mention that once you have met Bantar and done all that you can do there, it's time to save your game again. The walkthrough says you have to jump into the shaft through which you travelled up after frobbing the grating. Just after entering the shaft, you should drink the first slowfall potion, and when you're near the lower end of the shaft, drink a second one. I don't know where that second potion can be found, and I'm too lazy to read the walkthrough to find out, unless you really, really need it...
After that, I think you have to backtrack your steps a bit, until you reach the whirlwind (or Cyclone, as it was called as well). Save your game once again. In the corridors and rooms around the pit with the whirlwind, you have to shoot some rope arrows at archery targets. These archery targets are located in the corners of the pit where the whirlwind is located.
You'll have to hit two or three of these archery targets with rope arrows. These targets can be reached from at least two rooms there. I think there was a third or fourth target which does not need a rope arrow placed in it; I think it can even be harmful if you shoot a rope arrow into it. That's why I told you to save the game before.
After preparing the way with ropes, you should jump onto one of two ropes you placed in one room, and climb down into some red water. You should fall down a bit and grab another rope. Climb down to reach a corridor. Walk through this corridor to reach a room at the far end, the hall of mirrors. The mission should end there.
Okay, I hope this will help you finish this mission, after which the next one waits to torture you...

Thanks baeuchlein, actually nightwalker just emailed me the walkthroughs last night and i beat the mission and onto guilded rivalry now :)
I sent the walkthroughs to thiefmissions.com and asked them to host it on their site on the Originia mission page, they currently have it linked externally to ycatx's site which has long since died. In fact thats where all thief site's have the walkthrough linked from, which is why all are broken. Anyway I hope thiefmissions.com will host on their own site.
thanks for your replies by the way, very thorough, and I think I got it all. I used the mana seed to grow a tree in that "shaft" with a lot of bonus gems (the shaft before u get to the fish tank area) which I dont think anyone did to get those gems hehe. but it worked very nicely. in fact that tree was even tall enough to climb up and jump up out of the shaft and thats how i first made it inside the fish tank. It would have been cool if ycatx made no other entrance into the fish tank place, and using the tree in that shaft would be be the only way to get the bonus goods in that place. I dont think any mission-relevant stuff existed in that place anyhow.
Also for people who used the seed to get those 4 gas arrows on the ceiling in the red metal temple (just before the garden room), I managed to get up there using 2 rope arrows by hitting them dead center in the middle of the gas on both sides. Up there I found 1 chest and 2 gas arrows on each side of the room, and then simply climbed back down the rope arrow. Theres no need to use the mana tree there.
And I beleive everything else you talked about I also found. Another thing I thought about was how there is a 4th target you can shoot a rope arrow into by the cyclone. You can do this by leaning out to the left from the entrance gate, and shooting at it from a very extreme angle. its difficult but I managed it. Then i climbed down rope arrow 1, 2, 3 and finally got to the 4th but the rope arrow was at too much of an angle (not sticking out far enough) so I couldnt grab the rope and fell. But from the looks of it theres no extra secrets up there. Now it would have been cool if there was some secret accessible area from the 4th target and I would have experimented in finding a way to shoot an arrow from a more straight angle into it, but i dont think there is any point.
Anyhow im almost done guilded rivalry, I only needed the walkthrough there for jumping into the correct red curtains, because I tried doing that for a while but when it never worked i gave up. But of course there are a few of them you can jump into and a few are even necessary to get the mission objectives (expert).
P.S. anyone knows what those 2 images in a blue-tiled room in the tricks area were about? I never understood it, seemed to serve no purpose at all.

Are these walkthroughs the ones from ycatx' site, with several screenshots and parts of the map as well? These are the ones I have. I downloaded them from ycatx' site a long time ago.

Yes, theres 4 word files with screenshots inside them, theyre 1.5mb total
baeuchlein on 25/4/2010 at 15:55
Interesting. Mine are HTML files and 1.4 megabytes in size, but I guess they're really the same.
Cold0ne on 25/4/2010 at 19:48
Hmm yeah probably someone just did a conversion one way or the other. Still waiting for thiefmissions to respond my email or update their game page and host the walkthrough. But you never know, maybe they havent updated their site either in a long time, and maybe wont even reply or check their email. By the way it was one of those "submit" type emails where you fill it in on their upload page and provide your email, so chances are they might not even check it or care these days, but i certainly hope they will. I am always unsure about these "submit" pages on sites, its just not the same to me as if they provided a real email address to contact.

Thiefmissions.com already has a package of the 4 individual mission walkthroughs - they're in the form of Word docs (with screenshots, map references, etc) which are 4.4Mb zipped & about 19.5Mb unzipped. They're not signed so I don't know who wrote these.
You can d/l them from (

I sent ColdOne the html files as well as Word files. I'm not sure where I got those from but the html files are copies of the ones from YcatX's site, I believe.
The walkthrough link at thiefmissions.com doesn't work. The Wiki has a link to the walkthroughs which are posted at The Circle.
