the html files are copies of the ones from YcatX's site, I believe.
Apparently, yes. The .rtf files (recognized as Word documents by most Windows installations) available at The Circle contain some conversion of the original HTML material present on YcatX' site, from late 2002 or early 2003; text and pictures match the HTML pages I downloaded from the site back then. So, both walkthroughs are essentially the same and are very likely written by YcatX himself.
However, the HTML files are a bit more legible. Apparently, conversion to Rich Text Format (.rtf) messed up text formatting a bit (unless it's just my ancient Windows 98 SE installation).

Ive gotten to this page earlier as well when scouring the web for the walkthrough:
(
http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/FM:T2_Ruins_of_Originia_-_YcatX/walkthrough)
but all it says for me is "Copy later", like someone forgot to put those files or walkthrough there!
thanks again night crawler for sending me the files, I am now onto 3rd mission and only had to peak at the walkthrough in 2 locations so far where i got stuck :)
I also discovered part of my problem is my HDTV which i play games on (from my couch wirelessly) is starting to die, its a Digital Liquid Projection tv so it uses a lamp in the back, after 3 years its starting to fade.
So i was wondering what is up with this mission being so damn DARK! just turns out its a coincidence the lamp is finally starting to die now and it started turning darker right around the time i started playing Ruins of Originia ;p
Just my luck heh. But now its gotten so bad that in google, the white screen looks like you have the brightness turned down to 50% on your screen. I ordered a new lamp from amazon and should be here in a few days, and definitely cant play any games until then. Look how most games lately (Bioshock 2, Mass Effect 2, Just Cause 2, at least the first mission...) are all very dark and atmospheric! not that I mind, I love that, and thief certainly delivered that long before other games, but you need to have a good condition monitor or hdtv with good level of brightness to play these kinds of games or they seem impossibly dark!

As I posted a bit further up this page, just click on the "source" link to start the d/l (you may see a "you are now leaving Wikia" message - just click "Skip This Ad")
Converting some of the formats used for walkthroughs / lootlists to Wiki is a bit beyond me at present: Sxerks does those, but apparently hasn't gotton to that one yet
NW: yeah, you're right, that one is hosted at The Circle - since the vast majority of walkthroughs & lootlists I've linked are at thiefmissions I guess I just assumed.
And
so many of them written by you and/or Freddy Fox - I'd forgotton just how many of these you wrote :wot:

Thiefmissions.com already has a package of the 4 individual mission walkthroughs - they're in the form of Word docs (with screenshots, map references, etc) which are 4.4Mb zipped & about 19.5Mb unzipped. They're not signed so I don't know who wrote these.
Yes, I do have these although as mentioned by others someone inexplicably converted them to some microsoft format which I have to convert back to HTML. Unfortunately the conversion has not beem quite so nice (at least with Openoffice; I don't have the MS products so I can't use them).
However, I just tried the wayback machine and it looks like the walkthroughs have been archived! I'm going to try and pull them down.
BTW, the original site credits Yametha with the walkthroughs.
EDIT: Doh, some of the images are missing. I'll see if I can somehow extract those from the MS Word documents I have to make a complete set of documents.
EDIT2: OK, I've at least been able to completely restrore the Mines of Margoth walkthrough. Follow the walkthrough link from (
http://thiefmissions.com/info.cgi?m=RuinsOfOriginia)
EDIT3: All done. I managed to get it all back. Hooray for the wayback machine.

Wow epithumia, thanks for your hard work! Im sure many people in the future who play this mission will be using it from your site. I doubt any player ever beat these missions without at least 1 or 2 looks at a walkthrough ;p

I needed
a lot more than just two peeks at the walkthroughs.

One thing I'm wondering if its supposed to be so dark that I can't see most buttons, it looks considerably darker on my computer(maxed gamma) than it does in the walkthrough pics. For example, the buttons in one of the mortuary rooms are clearly visible on the walkthrough:
Inline Image:
http://thiefmissions.com/walkthroughs/RuinsOfOriginia/MoM_walkthru_files/mom-embutt.jpgWhereas on my screen the entire area except for the center of the room is pitch black, even with maxed out gamma.

Is your version of Thief running in software renderer mode? Have you tried using DDFIX?

When I played the T1 as well as the T2 version of "Mines of Margroth", I noted that both versions had some
very dark areas. On the other hand, I can usually see everything I have to if I set my gamma value to maximum, at least in T2. So it's a combination of a really very dark area and something else on your computer, since you can't see much even with gamma set to maximum.
If there is no other solution, you can use the Gem of Oldorf for increased lighting, but that's not so funny unless you know where you have to look for something.

I'll try changing the renderer once we get some downtime here (We don't even have AC hooked up to tent yet). Not sure if thats it, but I did try the OC and the gamma problem was absent. Worth a shot though. Downloading DDfix will be a hassle because I'll have to dig up a memory stick and head over to the MWR tent to do the deed.
