I can side with Faetal here. I torrented games, when I was younger, but since the advent of Steam, I can't remember a single game that I would have downloaded that way. I feel like the most important factor is that Steam is A) Easy B) includes lots of non-AAA titles that go well under 50€. There's no fucking way I could spend 100€ on two games in a month for example, but I don't mind buying a smaller game or two for 20€, if I happen to have some extra cash.

Nobody gives a fuck about how many laws you've broken. Not buying any games at all(rampant piracy) is better than buying shitty ones(which is what your consumerism is doing). First is opting out of voting, second is voting for MORE SHITTY SHOVELWARE TITLES PLZ I JUST WANT TO BUY, WHATEVER IT IS

You make a lot of assumptions. I'd probably take exception if your hair trigger anger wasn't slightly amusing.
Also, try learning about proportionality and headroom dynamics - increased spend in a sector doesn't normalise quality ratios, it just means there is more money in general.

All the games I've bought from Steam have been quite good. Sorry, if they don't include poles throwing dice to determine who does more dmg to each other.

I agree with faetal and Kuuso 100%. The big difference for me is that games go on sale on Steam. When a AAA title I was sort of interested in has a price tag of $20, I'm much more likely to buy it than if it languished at $50 on a Gamestop's shelves for months. It's also convenient not having to deal with physical media and the associated copy protection that makes it a hassle to reinstall games.
Now, back to the topic, I'm not sure what Valve's target market is. They don't have much of a console presence as far as their games go, and the 360 is some stiff competition. Perhaps, if this rumor is true, the intent is to release before or alongside the next generation of consoles.

I actually have a fairly decent PC hooked up to my TV for PC gaming already, so I don't really need the Valve hardware. However, I am waiting patiently for the 10-foot interface they announced last year then said nothing more about.

In potential "news" that should surprise no one, Steam Box is rumoured to use Lunix (and will be officially unveiled later this year).
