Can you run and then jump in Thief 2? I could have sworn that I have been doing this all along, but I've just reinstalled Thief Gold and Thief 2 on my laptop and I'm bummed that I can't run and jump. I can run, than I have to come to a full stop and then jump. I used to get chased by guards and run then mantle or run and jump onto ladders, but now I cannot. Is this something to do with NewDark?
Puzzled...and thanks all for input.

You can run
and jump in TMA, but you can't bunny hop like you can in TDP/TG. The ability to propel yourself forward faster and faster by running and jumping is exclusive to TDP/TG. As for your game changing files, I personally have the steam version of TMA which has DDfix and I added Tafferpatcher with only the core files. Tafferpatcher includes NewDark and I don't have this problem so if you're using an out-dated version you may want to upgrade.

I hear you on the no bunny jumping, but I can't run and jump/mantle.
I have walk bound to W
Run with to Shift
Jump with to e
I can run, but when I'm running and I press "e" noting happens. When I press w then e I can jump...just not with Shift or RUn.
Makes the game unplayable...lol
Thanks

Try binding run to "W" and spacebar for jump. Also, your ability to jump may be hindered by terrain.
Incidentally, I don't -think- you can jump any higher with a running start. Further, sure, as your momentum will carry you, but that's it, AFAIK

Try to bind Shift+e to jump too (thief allows multiple bindings). If it doesn't help, then:
1. make a backup of your user.bnd file.
2. open it with a text editor. A third-party editor like Notepad++ is recommended because linebreaks in *.bnd files made by original Thief are somewhat broken (fixed in NewDark) and Microsoft editoirs don't handle them properly.
3. search for "e+shift" and remove the string which contains it.
4. save the file and open it again to see that it's not become an incomprehensible mess.
If the issue still persists, do the same to default.bnd.

You don't jump higher, but the detection for successful mantling is better.

Sounds like it might be an issue with your keyboard. Sometimes the input on my keyboard doesn't respond if I press a certain combination of keys at the same time. Have you used the same buttons (W, E, Shift) when you played Thief 2 before? Do you have a new keyboard?

Shift+E is a hotkey to fly downwards (no-clip) in DromEd. So if DromEd is installed, Shift+E won't do anything in the game until unbinded.

Bunny hopping still works in T1/TG under NewDark. It's probably something to do with the gamesys or scripts or something like that.

Jump with to e
Jumping with the E key. That's... different.

This worked! Thanks!
