I'm thinking of chucking my old motherboard, GFX card (ATI Rage) and PII350 for. . .
. . . a 900Mhz Duron, KT2Z motherboard and GeForce 2MX 32Mb. And possibly 256 MB PC133 for the motherboard instead of my 192Mb of PC100 (160 of which I use as I've only 2 DIMM slots).
But I won't unless DX will run well on it. I'll wait for prices to drop and get something else otherwise (want want want Prophet II Ultra but cannot afford).
What are peoples experiences of DX with this type of set-up?

It should be fine, but I'd get something better then the GeForce2 MX. Geforce 2 GTS's aren't too expensive now (32 meg ones). Neither are the Radeons. If you're on a serious budget, then try and get a Geforce 1 DDR instead of the MX. Even though it's a generation behind in technology, it's a faster card (due to the MX using only SDR memory).

Yeah, that system should be fine with Deus Ex all patched up etc. I'd agree with Phydeaux, go for the GTS over the MX.

GTSs are much more expensive her in the UK. There are MXs with DDR I think. I thought I saw some advertised at dabs.com or watfrod.co.uk today. Or was it at Simply?
Anyway, I've seen them. MXs are under £100 but GTS are £150+. I've worked out the whole lot (plus a Maxtor 20Gb HD to be the master to my old 6.4 Gb) will be aprrox £250. I don't really want to spend much more than that.

Your problems, if any, are more likely to involve your operating system, not your hardware, as long as you make sure you have the latest drivers for your chosen video card.
Win98SE is reported to be the most stable for games. I run Deus Ex on Win98SE and have had no problems. If you must get Win2000, be sure to get service pack 2 - I haven't tried it but hear it solves a lot of the problems Deus Ex has had running on Win2000.
I have seen mixed reports for WinME - some say they get a critical error when they try to run the game, others say they have no problems at all.

Don't want to "upgrade" to Win2000 anyway. I just want to get Deus Ex working like a dream on my machine (Win98). At the moment the demo is sluggish and in that dithered mode.
I've decided that Deus Ex is the only new game I want (I'm picky and I don't crave too much - not enought ime to play anyway).
I'm going to get a full megabucks upgrade especially for T3/DX2 though.
I just don't know how to get my machine up to Deus Ex specs. And I want to spend as littel as possible.
Can I get a PIII? I can't remember if my motherboard (currently with PII 350) can take one.

where do you reside, cuz if your in the bay area you can get a 1.2GHz AMD athlon w/MB, case, floppy drive. all you need to add is your cd-rom, HD and video. The MB is also capable of up to 1GHz of RAM. You have to get ram too. the case MB, and CPU only run for about 300 US Dollars.... Just some info, and Deus Ex runs extremely better with AMD than with intel, from my experience.
I have this setup with a Voodoo5 AGP card(roughly 200 US dollars) and my framerate hasnt dropped below around 75 FPS even with a full unpartitioned drive.

I'm in England. I may be able to get a second hand Voodoo 3000 from a friend. I'd like to get a faster CPU but not necessarily a new MB.
As Deus Ex players what would you all think of:
PIII 700, 160Mb RAM, Voodoo 3000 ?
Sniper459 on 7/6/2001 at 19:04
pENTIUMS are ok but Id rather go with AMD.
for some reason a Voodoo card running AMD is extremely kick arse!!in other words 3dfx voodoo cards are like a child to AMD machines, cant go wrong when these two are paired!

May have to go for a new MB and a Duron then. I've checkd PIII prices and they are as much as a budget MB + Duron in the UK.
Got's to gets the Voodoo now. . .
