How much is a KT133A mainboard in England? How much is a Duron 900?
I'd say, yes, you can put all three DIMMs into the board, but they'll run at 100MHz.

256Meg 133-speed RAM should be enough. My Voodoo 3 3000 AGP did DX nicely but my Geforce 2 MX400 does it beautifully in D3D at 1024X768.

Hey buglunch, you've made me think about getting a GeForce MX again. They're reasonably priced here too (under £100).
But if the PC133 RAM will run at 100Mhz I'll stick with my 192Mb PC100 for now (and pass it on to my bro later on).
Raoul - a KT133A MB can be from £70-140 depending on features. Duron 900 is £76.

Sorry, I made a mistake. Make that £95 for the mainboard.

I got 450mhz Celeron, Voodoo 3 3000, 64 <IMG SRC="eww.gif" border="0"> mbs of RAM and Deus Ex runs quite playable in 800x600 with effects on medium. I bet if i got another 32 or 64 mbs of RAM it would run like a dream.
Raoul Duqette on 15/6/2001 at 08:35
I run it at 800x600 with everything else maxed and hardware 3D sound on. Nice frame rate.
I wonder how an Unreal engine game can look better in D3D than in Glide? I find that hard to believe, buglunch, since the engine is so optimised for Glide.
buglunch on 17/6/2001 at 03:35
It's just that I can now use 32-bit textures and higher res; maybe Voodoo 5 is better, but the drivers will never be optimized.

That explains it, buglunch.
WuCong, the K7VZA is listed at €97 in a shop around the corner. A Duron 900 comes at €117 in that same shop, but you can get it for less than €110.
Sounds good? A flight ticket from Stansted to Berlin is £35. Fly over in the morning, let us go shopping, then sightseeing. Return home in the evening with a new mainboard and CPU. It may be no cheaper than getting the components in London, but it's a day trip to the continent for free.
WuCong on 18/6/2001 at 06:19
Hey hey, that's certainly tempting Raoul.
But I'm going to Taiwan in September and I may hold off getting my parts 'til then now.
Which is a shame 'cause I wanted to give my old bits to my bro as he has a v poor set up (though he doesn't play games).
However, I'm not convinced that it will definitely be cheaper there and there are support issues (as there are when buying from Berlin). I'm surprised Germany is so cheap. With the strength of the Mark and all...
