They have other uses, like temporarily disabling laser trip beams, cameras and guns. Good for when you want to get by but don't want to wreck the place. Or make a big, loud explosion and alert the next county that you're coming. They have the added virtue that if you goof, the results are not fatal to the user :o
For bots, I found that the spy drone augmentation at level 2 or higher can disable a security bot in one zap. It's a nice safe way to attack bots from behind cover, if you can deal with the heavy power consumption.

I found the spy drone a waste of an aug. My power runs out before I can get it to go anywhere useful. I am much better off using upgraded infra-red...
...or saving, rushing in, getting fragged, then reloading. Apparently, Bob Page has no idea of the power of the QuickSave aug!

How about that: The time when I got to Simons I just run off him, just because I didn't know he was there. I was runnig to the exit sure that the way was clear; i heard other footsteps going thru the dark cave where the Karkians were but I decided it was the echo <IMG SRC="shake.gif" border="0"> So I continued my run and in the room leading to the flooded area he finally got me. After the conversation Simons started to fry me with his Plasma and I had only one way to run: to the water. Simons followed me and surprise! He wasn't able to use the Plasma under the water. Cool! So he drew a Dragon Tooth and started chasing me. I still could use my crossbow, besides, I could get to the ladder leading off the water and shoot him with my Pistol. So I KOed him with Tranquilizer darts and took his body with me. (I wanted the SOB alive!) But he just disappered after getting out :(
