Safe_Texture_Manager fix and resolution limit issue. - by Hit Deity

I searched, but I'm at a loss... (this is for T2, by the way.)
I know about having to use the Safe_Texture_Manager fix for NVidia cards by removing the ; in the .cfg file, and I'm having to use it. The only problem is: it's limited to 1024x768 on my system. I used to regularly play at 1600x1200 on my old card. I'm missing the higher resolutions.
Did anyone ever figure out a way for these two to work together? Any way of getting an NVidia card to not have to use that fix? Did someone hack that? Things look really ugly, and I might have to resurrect an old machine just to play all the new FMs. Just have to get an old hard drive booted up with Windows98.
I've got a dual-core 64 X2 4400+ AMD processor, with a NVidia GeForce 7950GT card, 512Mb. I'm currently using two workarounds just to get T2X working, and I really want to get the most out of it. I'd hate to go back to a P4 1.5GHz system, 256Mb RAM just to play it. :p

add "skip_starting_checks" (without quotes) to the user.cfg file AND ENABLE VSYNC (to limit the framerate to 60) for any nVidia graphics card

I am also trying the safe_texture_manager fix, and the game starts, although skipping the cutscene, but then it freezes, usually a few minutes later. I tried the other skip_starting_checks things as well, but to no avail. I used to have the freezing problem with my old rig, and back then I used OpenGl setup to rectify it, only now it won't work with XP. I wonder if this new Nvidia Forceware 163.xx will help?

Aidan,
it sounds like the classic dual processor lockup bug. If you have 2 CPUs or a dual-core CPU, you must set the "affinity" of the game to use only one of them. This is mentioned in the troubleshooting guide, along with a couple of methods to fix it. check the tech support forum stickies.
