Probably not day one for me, but the first time it's on sale? Yes please.

This. Hell, I still need to buy/play The Third.

The Third was on sale for something like ~$12 late last summer. Steam says I've gotten 43 hours out of it since then. I think I had a little too much fun driving around in my hijacked paddy wagon.

Shit, and the first and second ones too. I have only ever owned the 1st game, and I didn't like it much, the driving really felt wonky (360), prob. gave it 3 hours of my life. If I only play one of the 3 games, which should it be? I hear the 2nd is the tops from other sources.

The second is certainly a brilliant beast of ludicrous mixed in with serious fucked uppedness, but the PC port was beyond terrible. If you can get it cheap on the consoles, go with that. 3 is even more ludicrous, but lost a couple of fun things from the second - still, there's tons of content and it looks bloody brilliant, plus the PC port is much better, so it's not a bad choice either. Don't expect a setting as well-realised as in GTA IV or RDR, though: this is the sort of game where tooling around in a sandbox and beating people to death with a gigantic purple dildo is the raison d'etre, not driving around and taking in the sights.

The driving in 2 is identical to 1 tho, whereas in 3 it's been improved. But even beyond that, part 3 is easily my favourite installment.

Saints Row seems more and more like the distopian future in Back to the Future 2 where Biff Tannen ends up in charge of everything.
In fact it's probably more like Eighties sci-fi than Blood Dragon, without even trying.
I want to like it, but there's something basically empty and depressing about it.

It's the risk of total sandbox that the whole world ends up like a Potemkin village on a grand scale.
