There's an FM called "Thieves's Highway" (or something very similar to that) which involves a museum heist IIRC, but that's only a small part of the map and objectives. Plenty of places to go, plenty of stuff to do.

I recommend Being Thief 2:Exile
Great fun and a lot of exploration.
Yes! I second that. This is the exact mission I was about to recommend.

there is also a set of missions ,i forgot name but all enemys have guns and last level you have to kill a metal karras and he is not easy, might be a 3 mission set, older but very hard from what i remember, takes place in a city, with guards all around,i think i played with stealth as contact with enemys from what i remember was instnad death once they started shooting, even remember some market or store i went into and the person working it fliped when they saw me,i wish i knew the name of it,i would so replay it now that i got years of experience on thief fan missions

as for batman one i remeber more now i think objective is loot and escaping to boat, but how you get there is the fun part, from what i remember many ways to go,but roof was limiting from what i rememebr alot of dead ends, and one part i do rememebr you enter some under ground garage and then a deal goes bad between 2 sts of enemy ai and all hell breaks loose lol,i am so going to replay that one as well wonder if the updates will make it look better?

Sounds like "Rebellion of the Builder", by Gort, and yes, it is very hard. The third mission of that campaign is the city mission featuring the gun-wielding mechanists. It's not very "sandbox-ish", though. It's a bit similar to "The Seven Sisters" in that there is a big cityscape to explore, but you have to advance from location to location in a specific order to finish it.

Yeah it would be cool to see a classic pc game "kingpin" style fm. Imagine a bunch of cussing thugs and drug dealers, cops. Also with these cars and open city.

i remember that game, the big fat bald guy at the end in suit, was classic,i know someone once made a grappling hook as a useable item, but not sure i remmeber a good gun,i have seen swords that fire though
and gort i was wondering the city map and found a old time classic 50's car in yellow,it was very nice,i even mantles on it with new upgrades
replayed rebellion of the builder, and wow it was still hard on hardest setting, nut i made it to final level this time and what a gem it was ,we should have a mirrors edge mission contest, from point a to point b and a shit ton of stuff inbetween.
