Calling chip rolls "butties" is the only wrong thing in here.

Chip buttie does seem abhorrent, but then again, my north irish flatmates introduced me to the fish finger/sticks sandwich this year which has been one of the best 4am post-club snacks :p

Eat one on a cold winter night in north-west England and come back and say that
And you wonder why British food has a worldwide reputation for stellar blandness. The chip butty is like an adult picky eater's dream food. No meat, no veg, no cheese... just a monochromatic mass of pure starch and carbs.

I'm pretty sure stellar blandness is a source of national pride.
Everything in stride, lads. ... Everything in stride.

Sadly, that is true. I think I mentioned it before, but after being in the UK for one year, I realized the UK doesnt actually have a cuisine of its own. It peaks at beans potatoes sausage and bread. And even the sausage tastes like crammy lardy crap compared to pretty much anywhere else you go in the world.

haha no.
venison tartare, potted shrimp, Yorkshire pudding, smoked kippers, pickled herring, jellied eel, cod and chips, tripe on toast, ploughman's lunch, fisherman's pie, steak and kidney pie, liver and bacon, spotted dick, bread and butter pudding, GOLDEN SYRUP PUDDING, raspberry knickerbocker glories
wash down with a pint of tetley's
I'm not even going to bother listing the unrivalled British range of SWEETIES
you obviously have no idea about English food so maybe you should SHUT UR CAKEHOLES

French fries on white bread? That's it? If there isn't more to that sandwich than that, then I gotta say I'm pretty disappointed in you, SD.
Horribly disappointed.
Well, the chips have salt and vinegar on them...

Subway should never be brought up in a cuisine debate. Their "bread" appears to be some horrid synthesized version of the substance. Any time my wife wants to "grab a quick sub" at Subway I recoil in disgust. We have legitimate "sub shops" in Upstate NY with REAL bread. Maybe places run by Italians don't count as "American" but if I have to be patriotic to Subway I think I'll deport.
Though I can't agree that it's bad or bland, I am utterly convinced that UK cuisine is designed to compliment stout/ale. (I will gladly consume both.) (My preconceptions are all courtesy of the two "English Pubs" in the "popular affluent youth" area of the city and a local Renaissance Fair. :D )

*Disclaimer: no(t many) vegetables were harmed during making of Vernon`s list.
Other fine points might be: try to find these specials in edible form in any bigger town, some of them are about as British as "British humour" (i.e. not at all), there might be a reason your obesity rates are highest in Europe.
Tetley`s? I take it you talk about CAMRA - approved cask version, not the Smoothflow rubbish. Even so, you might need to (
